Muslim coworker

I have a former co-worker who is Muslim. He recently sent an e-mail that, as best as I can tell, is trying to defend the Muslim faith and trying to convert people to the Muslim religion. In the e-mail he also makes reference to the Popes recent “attack” on Muslims. He also posted links that suggest that the 9/11 attacks were put together by the USA government to make the Muslims look bad. I don’t know wether to repsond to this or ignore it. It all seems irrational and they say you can’t rationalize with irrational thinkers. Looking for advice and other links that I could possibly send back to him in regards to showing him that he is wrong in his thinking and promoting the Catholic Faith.

Don’t respond at all. If yours is the only address on it block him. Most such are a waste of time and if you were the target of it then he’s got an issue.

I’d suggest you pray for him.

If he seems logical you could reccomend he at least read the whole text of the Pope’s infamous speech which refered to Islam. It might plant a seed. If he seems illogical then he might just be trolling for someone to be angry at. The fact that he would send an email like that to people he doesn’t know well might suggest hes a little unstable, If the email is only towards you I would put in some more discernment on your best course of action. I would take it as he is looking for a fight with you in particular and I would ignore his emails.

Above all pray, and let Christ make the hard decisions for you.

Edit: Keep in mind this is work and you don’t want to be loosing your job over some nutcase.

I think you should reply, telling him that the Pope was not attacking Islam. Then see where that gets you.

I agree that the only action you should take is to block the e-mail address. Why would someone think this kind of conversation is acceptable to broach through e-mailing? If they truly would like to discuss faith matters with you, they should at least have the decency to invite you to their home or out for coffee to talk about it.

Islam is the suspension of rationality (it is ‘submission’)

I have a current Moslem co-worker. I asked him about Aisha (she was only nine years old when Muhammed had intercourse with her). My co-worker tried to defend this by telling me that nine year olds then, were different to nine year olds today

(which is odd because they don’t say that Muhammed was an example for people just of his own time).

There is very little you can do because Moslems are told that Christians are out to deceive them. It’s why there’s a lot of stuff about not taking non-Moslems on as close friends.

I gave my Moslem co-worker the full text from the Pope to read. He said it was insulting to Islam.

I then asked him if he knew of the Banu Qurayzah - they were a Jewish tribe destroyed under the supervision of Muhammed

He defended this action by saying that they had broken a treaty with Muhammed and deserved to be destroyed; that Islam isn’t a pacifist religion.

I then said “You just confirmed what the Pope said”.
