Muslim going to church?

Don’t let her wearing a headcovering make you uncomfortable. I wish Catholic women had more freedom to do so. There is one woman at my parish who wears a mantilla. I’m temporarily wearing a headcovering but only because I’m a bald cancer patient! Who knows, maybe I should just keep up with it after my hair grows back?!

I visited an Orthodox friend recently whom I hadn’t seen in a while. When she came up to greet me, I joked, see, I’m an honorary Orthodox! 😃

However, I don’t know if I like the fact that he may be praying to “Allah” in the presence of Our Lord. Hopefully, he will receive the grace of Faith one day as a result of his experiences with Mass.
/QUOTE]
So if you don’t pray to Allah at Mass who are you praying to? Allah is Arabic for God and the last I heard, He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob which would be the Trinitarian God that we all pray to, although Muslims and Jews do not see Him as Trinitarian. I have never heard of any other god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob except this one. Its OK, Allah will forgive your disbelief. 👍

While the Muslims do hold to believe in the God of Abraham, they have a different understanding and belief than we do. In fact, Islam is hostile to the Christian religion; they say that we corrupted the true message of God and reject the divinity of Jesus. They say that the Gospels cannot be trusted because they have been altered and tampered with. They say that Jesus will deny his divinity at the end of time and that the cross will be broken. They claim to believe in the same God as us, yet they demote Jesus to the level of prophet below Muhammad.

The fact is that Islam is a demonic fabrication that is nothing more than a peculiar mix of Arabic Paganism, Judaism and Gnostic Christianity. Islam was spread by the sword and is nothing more than a religion of hate. The God of their religion is not the God of my religion. My God does not tell me to “behead the infidels” and subjugate women. I don’t care if this offends anyone. I’ve said this to many Muslims face to face. The world would be a better place without Islam.

I can tell that you are very unhappy with the condition of the Church and the world at large. I will pray that things change enough that you find peace. These certainly aren’t the best of times, but neither are they the worst. 🙂

There is only one God. So if this fellow is praying he is either praying to the same God Catholics pray to (albeit with a weaker understanding of Him) or he is praying to nothing at all. Neither is a problem.

All are welcome at Mass. If the Mohammed himself came by I’d slide down, and him a missalette, and hope he learned something.

Could not agree more. The world would do better with a lot of things, but I believe God will bring a greater good out of Islam in the end, whatever that may be. It’s a shame people do not think in this context anymore. They’ve conceded to Islam’s claims. They CLAIM to worship the same God, it doesn’t mean they do. I could claim that I can fly, doesn’t mean that I can. The Church has stated that Mohammadanism is a heresy.

And you’re absolutely right about the blends of other religions being extremely evident in Islam. However, back to the original discussion.

I think it would be of great benefit for the OP to introduce herself and say how happy she is to see the couple there. It just might be that the man is waiting for the right person to talk to him, if he is a Muslim.

Pace e Bene

Possibilty #3
Or he is praying to the Devil or a Demon. Both of which are commonly accepted to exist.

A great many believe Islam to be the Devil’s Handiwork.

Does this apply only to Islam or to every non-Christian religion?

I just don’t get it. You’d think we’d all be overjoyed to have an opportunity to bring Christ to someone, if indeed he isn’t already Christian. Instead here we are discussing whether he’s standing in the Church praying to the Devil.

Maybe it’s time to review what the Church actually teaches about the two other major monotheistic religions: Islam and Judaism.

If he is there questioning, great. If he’s there to make a statement (and some do, I’ve met a few), probably not so good. If he’s there to make converts (and I know some do attend christian services for that purpose), then he leads them to their doom, and does the devil’s work.

Salvation under current teachings is found in ignorance outside the Catholic and Orthodox churches.

My personal experiences with Islam lead me to believe the church teaches wrongly about Islam since the 1970’s. Since none of the proclimations have been dogmatic, I’m free to belive as I choose and the evidence leads.

And that is that Islam is a religion started by Satan, sending people to eternal damnation, and calling for murder, rape and violence, as well as oppression, mutilation, abject submission, and gender discrimination. What good it has is condemned by the evil it engenders.

Wil there be muslims, hindus, native american shamanics, even Aztecs in heaven? I’m certain at least a few of each. Are they there because of their religion? No.

I also believe that Islam is an invention and tool of the evil one. A simple investigation of Islam will prove to anyone that this is the truth. Muhammad was a wicked man who called for the murder of thousands in the name of his “God.”

Islam may appear to be a religion of peace, but if you scratch beneath the surface you will see that this is a lie. Satan would not create a religion that is totally evil. He is far more intelligent than us and he has created a religion that is mixture of truth and evil. Islam does contain elements of truth but it is deplorably wrong, especially with regard to Jesus. It is a distortion of the truth that has led many good people astray.

I could go on and on…

I advise everyone to do a little bit of reading on the subject. I can guarantee that you will be left speechless. Look for the truth about this faith and not the PC garbage that is designed to hide the true nature of this insidious invention.

My personal experience with Muslims (in their home environment) has been overall (though not completely) a positive one - indeed perhaps similar to any other group of people I’ve lived among.

The question is, considering that “personal experiences” could be as varied and numerous as people themselves, are we each to substitute our impressions on the matter in the place of Church teachings?

I will say here that one of the main reasons I remain Catholic, is exactly this: that various personal opinions, interpretations etc. of the truth would inundate me otherwise.

Are we straying from the OP? A simple discussion about one (possibly Muslim) man, has become a discourse on Islam.

Maybe I’m not the one who needs to do some reading. While there is no denying the truth of Christianity, it is not being perfect and free from heinous behavior that has distinguished it’s followers from Muslims or any other non-Christians. Our single distinguishing mark is the cross of Christ.

The point is not to act “holier than thou” with regard to people of other religions, but to focus on allowing Christ to continue His work of perfection in us.

It must surely be worse to know the True God and end up eternally separated from Him than it would be to have never known Him to begin with.

I know that I am going off on a tangent but I feel that it is important that people know the truth about Islam. I know that there are some very good Muslims but the sad fact is that they are misguided. I pray that they will come to know and accept the Good News of Christ.

I am not acting holier than anyone - Lord knows that I am a sinner. I am simply stating that Christ is the truth and the life. I will promote the fact that Christ was holier than Muhammad in every conceivable way. Christ was the only perfect and sinless man ever. Muhammad doesn’t even come close to Christ and yet the Muslims have stated that Muhammad is greater than God the Son.

Here is the truth about Muhammad:
Aisha the Child Wife of Muhammad
The thought of an old man becoming aroused by a child is one of the most disturbing thoughts that makes us cringe as it reminds us of pedophilia and the most despicable people. It is difficult to accept that the Holy Prophet married Aisha when she was 6-years-old and consummated his marriage with her when she was 9. He was then, 54 years old.
Read all about it here:
This is true.

The point I was trying to make is that we while we follow the truth, we are not free (historically speaking or indeed even now) from many of the human failings we criticize in followers of other religions e.g. Subjugation of women, oppression, violence.

Interestingly, child marriage has been a feature in the history of many cultures/societies, even Christian ones. Just check out the histories of certain of the world’s royal families.

The way to bring people to us is not to drag out the dirty linen from their religious closets, but to preach Christ, crucified for love of us all.
