No, this isn´t interesting for Hollywood, the truth isn´t important, only is important the propaganda. And almost forever, the anti-christian and anti-catholic propaganda.
John W. Cones (Film Industry Reform Movement) has summed up the problem thusly: “Movies to a large extent, tend to mirror the values, interests, cultural perspectives and prejudices of their makers.”

While the industry is not monolithic, those who decide which films will be made are mainly politicaly liberal, not very religious Jewish men of Eastern European heritage. Those in the industry not of that group often share the same assumptions because those men have created the culture in which film making operates.

This isn’t a slam against anyone. If 16 of the 20 most powerful individuals in the film industry were Roman Catholics of Polish ancestory, movies would tend to reflect that which Polish Catholics find interesting.

The answer to the problem is simple. It is what the liberals who control the industry preach everyday: diversity.

How that is accomplished is the question. I certainly don’t know. Everyone saw what happened to The Passion. Not only did Hollywood turn against it but there was a MSM, liberal NGO loop running for a year which fed into itself and increased the volume against the movie.

The answer we hear is “Well yeah but look how well the movie did despite all that”.

But that isn’t the point. Few, if any, people have the fame, tenacity and resources of Mel Gibson. The point of the attacks was to discourage others from doing what Gibson did as much as trying to drive down the box office of The Passion.

Yes, I know, but they have to be objective in historical movies.

One could hardly expect a good movie about the crusades these days unless Mel Gibson did it. I was looking foward to it but then I heard that it was Pro-Muslem and anti-Catholic. Now you couldn’t pay me to see it.

And the predjudice of those in the film industry is toward what makes money. It’s the same predjudice that’s in all the media - the bias is not “liberal” or “conservative” but what sells. You really think ONLY people who voted for Kerry are watching Desperate Housewives, Sex and the City, buying Viagara, purchasing pornographic magazines? NO ONE in Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, and all these other so-called “red-states” is financially supporting the “liberal” media with their wallets? Drop the paranoia, it’s unbecoming. You really want to effect change, change the culture, not the symptoms.

Philip P writes *And the predjudice of those in the film industry is toward what makes money. It’s the same predjudice that’s in all the media - the bias is not “liberal” or “conservative” but what sells. *

Michael Medved and others have debunked that repeatedly. The highest grossing films are films suitable for families. But Hollywood cranks out slop. Not only was “The Passion” (which everyone knew would make tons of money) turned down by the majors but so was “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”–one of the best ROI for a producer ever. It was turned down because the players in the industry have “issues” with Greeks. There is even a rumor one producer agreed to accept the film if “Greek” was changed to one of two other groups.

Far as the mainstream media is concerned, profit is suffering because of liberal bias and the execs know it. Bernard Goldberg and others told them years ago. Fox News proved it. But the networks simply cannot stop themselves. After the debacle of Dan Rather you would think CBS would try to reform. But no. CBS put on Bob Schieffer who went on IMUS this week and spewed the usual left wing talking points about Irag, Bush, Abu Ghraib, lies yadda…dadda…dee…he even got in a dig about right wing Christians, judges and separation of church and state.

See the New York Times earnings last quarter? They only looked good because the Sulzbergers sold off some assets. They are all in decline. With reason. The Networks are running DNC handouts and MoveOn.org position papers as news.

Right, Fox News and Anne Coulter are not part of the “mainstream media,” and the fat cat corporate bigwigs who support the Republican party are poor, marginalized victims of society. Listen carefully - I’m not saying that there aren’t paranoid conspiracy theorists on the Left - there are, and I disparage them just as much.

I’ve often found that when people complain about media “bias,” what they really mean is that they wish the media had THEIR bias. Both the left and the right are guilty of this, and both are wrong. Just say no to paranoid conspiracy theorists.

Our best response, as Christians, is not to see the movie if we feel it does not portray the truth. I was intending on seeing it but, based on the articles posted here, I have changed my mind.

Sometimes you can do more with your wallet than any protest. Especially when it comes to Hollywood.

Stay home, rent a movie, make some popcorn and enjoy an evening with your family.

Coulter and many on Fox make it clear they are commentartors with a partisan agenda. The networks do not. Dan Rather insisted until the end he was not a partisan. The New York Times claims to be the paper of record. Yeah, a record of what liberals think is news.

When 500,000 young people showed up for World Youth Day in Denver–the largest gathering since Woodstock–to hear Popel John Paul II, who did CBS interview? Three Catholics who don’t agree with the teachings of the church.

You want to talk about “fat cats?” Last year, George Sroos, Steve Bing, Peter Lewis and Mr. & Mrs. Sandler gave over $75 million to elect John Kerry. In 2002, Haim Saban gave the DNC over $12 million. Before that CEO Bernard Schwartz was the largest donor to any political party in American history.

There are no Republican “fat cats” who give as much as any of those individuals. No Republican “fat cat” corporations which do either. The big money is all on the Democratic side. The NEA, which takes in over $250 million tax free each year, provides the ground soldiers for Soros et al. The union has over 1,400 political operatives–much than the DNC and RNC combined.

Btw…know who is funding the TV ads against Tom Delay and ?

Two nonprofits:the “Campaign for America’s Future” (CAF) and the “Public Campaign Action Fund”

Guess what other nonprofit funds them?

George Soros’ “Open Society Institute”

These groups are attacking Delay, Bolton and helping in the filibuster of judges:

Democracy 21, Center for Public Integrity, Public Campaign ,Public Citizen and Common Cause.

Know who one of their biggest donors is?

George Soros.

I’ll just reply to this and then save further thoughts on this topic for another thread, so others who actually want to discuss the movie KOH can go back to doing so.

“Catholics are Catholic” is hardly news. Could the secular media to a better job covering the depth and range of religious belief? Most certainly, and they could start by stories that go beyond “what do you think about contraception.” But interviewing Catholics who disagree with some Church teachings hardly amounts to a persecution of Catholics.

Yes, CBS made a mistake with the documents. However, the bigger story, that George Bush cannot account for his missing time in the Air National Guard, and that he avoided Vietnam service, remains. Surely that’s newsworthy? Or do you consider Swiftboat Veterans for truth an example of good journalism?
Steve Bing

And of course the lobbying of the credit card industry had NOTHING to do with the new bankruptcy law that protects credit card companies, protects the high income earners, and crushes middle and lower income earners who have been trapped by the usurous policies of these credit card companies?

But this is all, really, beside the point. I can point to conservative cronyism and malfeasance, and you can point to the same among liberals. No one has a monoply on corruption. What I dispute is this idea that there some sort of conspiracy led by (The Christian Right; Geogre Soros, The liberal East Coast Jews) intent on persecuting (the working man, small business owners, good white Christians).

Conspiracy theories do not further the public discourse. They are smokescreens that serve only to ensure that demagogues who appeal to fear, hatred, and all our basest instincts rise to the top, to the detriment of all Americans.

There is no conspiracy. There was no second gunman, the Communists are not about to take over, George Bush did not steal Ohio, George Soros is not secretly taking over the world.

You may now return to discussing the merits, or lack thereof, of this movie.

This movie portrays the typical revisionist history so prevalent in todays media. Isn’t any wonder when you consider the state of our higher education institutions.

Check out this web site just to see where were at.

Yes and unfortunately this movie will become the “truth” for many young people who would never dream of cracking a book to find out the truth themselves.

Better to offend Catholic than Muslim…at least the director’s home wouldn’t be bombed.😃

And I know for a fact I’m going to be dealing with teenage girls who went to see *Kingdom of Heaven *because Orlando Bloom was in it and who will now and forever think the Crusaders were a bunch of fanatic cross-bearing Cro-Magnons who got lost on the mammoth hunt.

Never known Hollywood to allow historic facts to get in the way of box office receipts!

I have seen this movie and it’s totally offensive to Catholics. I would not recommend that anyone go out to see it and fund the Catholic bashing so endemic to Hollywood.

My father is a history professor, so naturally I grew up to be skeptical of all historical movies. He’s openly praised only a few - I distinctly remember him liking “Dances With Wolves”. Anyway, I also have a background in literature, which by necessity causes you to learn history, so I have a profound distaste for the revisionist trend that seems to be prevalent these days. It is indeed possible to make a good fictionalized account of historical events & keep it interesting from a creative standpoint without compromising the truth, but because it takes so much effort (and the intention to be truthfull as well), I doubt that Scott or many other people are very interested in doing it.However, I’ll be interested to hear the reactions of people who have actually seen it.
Dances with Wolves… the next thing I am going to here is that people think Pearl Harbor starring Ben Afleck is an accurate depiction of the events that unfolded on that December 7th day in Honolulu oh so so many years ago.

“The Passion of the Christ” was a truly Catholic movie in its portrayal of the Passion of our Lord. This movie was extremelly succesful not only for the money that it made but for the impact it had on people. Hollywood is the New Age mecca of the world (Scientology, Kabala, Wicca, etc) where all kinds of absurd beliefs are not only practicied but glorified. Movies like “Kingdon of Heaven” are a response to “The Passion of the Christ” they have to make Christians look bad.

These people want a world where anything goes, so they have to come up with movies to convince the masses that the Catholic Church is either, a lie, evil or both, and true catholics are bad or misguided people. Wait till “The DaVinci Code” comes out next summer.

I would like to see a movie made on the battle of Lepanto. I think Mel Gibson could do justice to this story.
