Muslim Persecution-Myanmar says 'you don't' to marriage

Where is the outrage from the Muslim community? If this is coming from a western country, y’all be jumping up and down screaming death to the infidels. Anyway, I’m totally against this especially stopping people from marriage. That’s inhumane.

BANGKOK - Some young men and women in Myanmar’s remote west are subject to a form of discrimination, considered harsh even for this country’s military regime. They are banned from getting married.

The victims are young adults from the ethnic Muslim-Rohingya community that has a population of about 1.4 million and is concentrated in the hilly Arakan state, which shares a border with Bangladesh. Myanmar has a population of about 45 million.

I urge every muslim to leave their school, their jobs, their families and go out to the streets. that way, whenver one out of the 1.3 billion muslims in the world does something wrong, we would be ready to protest.

On a more serious note: The prophet peace be upon him said that whoever can afford to get married, should get married. Marriage is considered half of your religion, and every single person (including the higest of scholars) is encouraged to get married.

What they are doing by prohibiting people from getting married is wrong, Islamically speaking. I’m sure they are well aware. So this has nothing to do with Islam.

I think MugenOne is on your side here, although the opening of the post was a little misleading. Muslims are clearly being oppressed and victimized, and I am also surprised that I’ve heard no protest from the Muslim community here. That isn’t to be judgmental about it; I’m just surprised that I haven’t heard anything.

There were 1,126,325,000 muslims in the world according to the 1998 World Almanac. I think there has been a fairly steady increase so 1.3 billion is a fair approximation.

Total World population [1998] 5,804,120,000; 1,955,229,000 Christian; 981,465,000 Catholics & 218,350,000 Orthodox.

There are actually more sunni muslims in the world than catholic christians

p.s. before you say it, i’m gonna say it “numbers dont mean anything”. I’m just stating the facts 😃

I found these stats…do you have access to ones that say otherwise? If you do, please post it. Either way, I pray that we all realize in our hearts that we will stand in front of God alone, and it wont matter if there were 10 trillion or 10 people who believed in what we believe.

As all the population data quoted thus far is several years old allow me to offer more current figures. According to the CIA World Fact Book cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/xx.html#People as of July 2005 there where 6446131400 people on the planet. Christianity is the dominant world religion at 32.84% of the population of which 17.34% are Roman Catholic (1095842338). Muslims make up 19.9% (1289226280). It does not differentiate between Sunni or Shia.
