Muslim to Catholic?

i will try to short my story

there are three major things

1- why i left islam

2- why i chose christ

3- why i want to be catholic

well its start with a word

a year ago when michael jackson died i remember i pray for him because i was sad but my friends told me you cant pray for a died infidel he is in hell and praying for a dead infidel is against our religion

and they were very mad because i only said ((god bless his soul)) and that made me think why many muslims hate others

i said to my self is it islam or is it us that we did not understand it ? it was clear that it is from islam

you can see it in the holy quran 9:113 were it said you cant pray for mercy fot the infidel

so i start to lose faith because islam is against my nature and i know that i was not born to hate others but love them

then i did discover many mistakes in the quran and hadith and many hate passages

so i ask god to help me and let me know the truth because i believe in god but islam does not give me peace

i did not want to be christian because islam teach that christians are praying to three gods

but i could feel the holy spirit saying to my soul give christ a chance, and after understanding who is jesus christ and what is his story and why he was crucified i start to fell in love with him 😊

so i pray to god and ask him if christ is you prove it to me

and he did !! it take me long time to accept him as my saviour which i did in 9/22/2010

i did not care what will happen to me because it is a big crime to leave islam in my country

i felt sorry for all those years where i was living a lie

and i felt my soul is having a connection with god ! it was the best feeling i have ever felt

but than i need to be away from my muslim friends for some time because i want to know more about christ so i said to my self i need to join the church so i can share my faith with others

so i ask the arab christians who are praising the bible on the intenet and trying to convert muslims (70% of them are protestant - 30% orthodox) what is the diffrent between the churchs and why there is catholic and orthodox and protestant ?

some told me they are all the same it’s only a diffrent style !! that answer did not help… many are against the traditional churchs and they told me catholics are the road to hell and they are doing crazy stuff that is not in the bible

and many of those pastors told me dont join the catholic church it will may destroy your salvation

but i was not convinced by what they were saying i must search my self because i have not seen any arabic catholic yet

so i pray to god and start to read about the history of christianity and the church and i realize that the catholic church have the full truth and the catholic church every thing they do and teach is biblical and the first christians were practising it , not only that! the catholic church wrote the bible and chose the four gospels becuase they are matching what the Apostles praise .

and the catholics have very strong position about thier dogma more than any other church

it’s funny when you read martin luther who began all this and made the way for a 40 000 new church is saying

"If Christ had not entrusted all power to one man(the pope), the Church would not have been perfect because there would have been no order and each one would have been able to say he was led by the Holy Spirit. This is what the heretics did, each one setting up his own principle. In this way as many Churches arose as there were heads. Christ therefore wills, in order that all may be assembled in one unity, that His power be exercised by one man to whom He Himself commits it. He has, however, made this power so strong that He looses all the powers of Hell (without injury) against it. He says: “The Gates of Hell shall not prevail against it” as though He said: “They will fight against it but never overcome it,” so it is in this way it is made manifest that this power is in reality from God and not from man. Wherefore, whoever breaks away from this unity and order of the power, let him not boast of great enlightenment and wonderful works, as our Picards and other heretics do, ‘for much better is obedience than to be the victims of fools who know not what evil they do

and after a year he start to call the pope anti christ !!

the catholic church will always have the full truth

i will trust a church that establish by christ himself not a church begin 400 or 100 years ago

i will trust a bible that contain 73 book who the Apostles praise and the holy spirit help to chose and it was there for centuries not the bible that was made by martin luther who remove 7 books .

and i will respect the authority of the church on that bible and the tradition that they took from the apostles and the church fathers

so after searching and reading i was sure that the catholic church has the keys of heaven

other churches have some of the truth but not all of it

that is my story 😃
Thank you so much for sharing your story- that is how I’m feeling as well, that Islam is ‘against my nature’ so to speak. The more I learn the more I’m just not capable of living a life in Islam.

the freedom. I find Islam incredibly restrictive- we seem to be slaves of God rather than beloved children of God. It’s some little things as well… like the hadiths saying we should not have dogs. I have two dogs, a very large Great Pyrenees mix, and I have a little cocker spaniel. I do not believe they are dirty animals. They definitely have the potential to be, and they are pros at making messes. Last night my Pyr puppy (8 1/2 months old, about 85 lbs) emptied the trash can while I took a shower LOL. So yes, she can be messy, but she’s certainly not a dirty, vile animal. They both have lovely personalities, and are very loyal. I don’t understand why God would make an animal that is SUCH a perfect companion for us, then say that it is dirty and forbidden.

And the Islamic laws regarding adoption to me, are very outdated. I keep being told when I question anything that ‘If God wanted it to change, he would send other messengers’. My husband and I are struggling with infertility, we’ve been trying to conceive for over a year and a half. I can’t handle thinking that maybe God just didn’t want us to ever be parents. I don’t believe God wants orphans to be treated like a visiting guest in my home either. We can adopt but according to Islamic law the child cannot have our last name and cannot inherit from us. If we adopted an older child I would leave it up to the child as to whether they wanted to change their last name or not- I would not force it upon a child who has already lost so much. I think denying my name to a child in my care, whom I love as my own, is cruel if they want my name. I can’t take a child into my home and not treat him or her like family.

So when I started researching, I read about how Catholicism views adoption, and it made me curious. So I started reading more. It was those two things that really made me start researching more- they might be little things to someone else, but to me they are very important. Not to mention, Islam teaches that angels will not enter a home with a dog in it. But- and this might make me sound crazy LOL, but last year I fully believe that I saw an angel in my home- and, I had a dog in my home. I know that might make me sound crazy but I know I saw it, and I can still remember exactly what it looked like. So if angels could still be in my home with a dog, I started wondering what else might not be true. So now, I basically just have to decide if Jesus really is the son of God or if he is not. As I started researching the dog and the adoption issue more, it kept leading to other things- kind of like a snowball effect, if you will- that have led me to be, at this point, about 95 percent certain that the Roman Catholic Church has more truth than Islam does.

I hope that post makes sense… we are going to mass again today so I’m trying to type in a hurry lol. If anyone wants further explanation on anything let me know, I tried not to leave anything out but I might have.
Christian faith believes in freedom. The reason is,how does God know your true heart if you don’t freely choose? If you are a slave, how do you know you are doing something out of love or force?
A short answer to dogs. Dogs are God’s creation. Are they not created from Heaven? God wouldn’t create something out of hate therefore God created dogs out of love. I love my dogs and I know God loves them even more than I do and they come inside in my house many times.
On adoption, it is an act of love. How can God hate a child to be taken in and be loved? God isn’t against kindness and showing love to a child. It is all about love. God is love.

wellcome to the forum arabic catholic
i tried to understand your journy , so that i started with the verses you quoted

9:13 What! will you not fight a people who broke their oaths and aimed at the expulsion of the Messenger, and they attacked you first; do you fear them? But Allah is most deserving that you should fear Him, if you are believers.

are you mad becasue allah encourage muslims to fight those who
**broke thier oath
aimed at the expulsion of the massanger
attaked muslims first **

is that the verses which proofed to you that islam wants us to hate all the infiedls ? 🤷
the verse dosn’t fit michel jackson

Historians (see Sahih Bukhari, Tradition Number 1311) report that as a funeral of a Jew passed before Prophet Muhammad [peace and blessings be upon him], as a sign of respect he stood up. In doing this, he showed respect and shared in the feeling of sorrow with Jewish family and community. “Why did you stand up for a Jewish funeral?” he was asked. The Prophet replied: “Is it not a human soul?”

is that act of hateness ?

wow , i make a mistake with quoting the wrong verse

It is not fitting, for the Prophet and those who believe, that they should pray for forgiveness for Pagans, even though they be of kin, after it is clear to them that they are companions of the Fire.

so yes this verse fit the nonbeliever , i agree

that will lead me to second question , is God in christianity may accept the prayer of christians for the pagans or athiests or even terrorists after thier death in thier beliefs out of christ ?

Hi
I do not have the authority to limit God’s mercy but as I understand our religion and it’s tenants, when you die outside of Christ’s flock…you are lost. Praying for someone after their death may not help them but it can’t hurt either. I hope I understood your question. I personally don’t waste my prayer time on departed murderers of innocent people. A more effective use of prayers might be that the terrorist see the evil of their ways before they die or better yet before they kill.🤷

Hi Elwill 👍

I see really in your above post two issues which need to be resolved.
  1. You asked if the Christian God wants us to pray for non-believers, am I right? In Christianity we are called to pray for all people, irrespective of religion or political views. We are told that we must love and pray even for our enemies and that includes terrorists, murderers and all human beings. Nobody is beyond forgiveness in this life and as Christians it our God-given duty to pray for the souls of others, that they come into the light of Christ’s sanctifying love and taste the true peace of the living God in their hearts, the peace that is true peace, the peace that the word Islam claims to bring, ‘the peace that comes from submission to the will of allah’ that is essentially the meaning of ‘Islam’. And yet Islam is not that peace. That peace is the Lord Jesus Christ who said:
Matthew 5.44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you

No such command to love one’s enemies exists within Islam, despite many points of similarity in other areas between the Muslim faith and Christianity. I think that you should aim to cultivate within your heart a love for the common humannity which is innate to all people. All human beings, whether they be Muslims, Christians or Atheists long to be happy and to flee from suffering. If you look at it in that way, how can you possibly not want to pray that everybody find’s the peace and happiness of God? How can you hate anybody? Indeed how can you call anybody a ‘companion of the fire’. Christ warned against such sweeping judgements of other people:

*37“Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” *
  1. You mention that according to Islam those who do not believe in Islam are ‘companions of the fire’. The Meccan Suras teach that good ‘Jews, Christians and Sabians’ will be saved. However the later Medinan Suras teach the opposite, that non-Muslims are condemned to everlasting hell. This contradiction in the Qur’an is explained by Muslim scholars through the doctrine of ‘Abrogation’, whereby the later Qur’anic verses revealed to Muhammad while in Medina supersede and essentially make void the earlier revelations which preach tolerance, love and the possibility of salvation for non-believers. The official Islamic view is thus:
*3:85 Whoso seeketh as religion other than the Surrender (to Allah) it will not be accepted from him, and he will be a loser in the Hereafter *

In other words, non-believers are damned.

According to Christianity, we are all children of God and made in the image of God. Professing belief in Hinduism or Buddhism or Atheism will never change that. Not even murdering somebody would make a person lose the Image of God, although the likeness would be lost. Just because somebody does not believe in Christianity, does not mean they are ‘companions of the fire’ as the Medinan Suras of the Quran would have you believe regarding non-Muslims. Christ told us that those who say ‘Lord, Lord’ will not make it into the Kingdom of Heaven but only those who do the will of his Father in heaven. “Whoever seeks peace and the good of the community with a pure conscience, and keeps alive the desire for the transcendent, will be saved even if he lacks biblical faith, says” Benedict XVI. How is this possible?

Good works cannot bring about salvation in and of themselves. Faith is necessary, however faith without works is dead faith. Faith finds fruition in good works. Good works are the natural outpouring of true faith and true Christ-conciousness! Without them a person does not really have faith in Jesus. However without faith in Jesus, equally, good works have no saving power on their own and it’s because of sin.

If I do good works my entire life and yet sin once and only once that sin is still the reason why I need Jesus’ sacrifice, for I am still a fallen being and cannot wholly redeem myself.

“For whoever shall keep the whole Law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10)

It is grace, the free gift of faith in Jesus Christ that grants salvation. That faith is vindicated through good works. Good works are the testimony and proof of true faith! If they do not exist then there is no faith, merely false faith. In Catholic theology, a person is justified by faith and works acting together, which comes solely from God’s divine grace. The faith that justifies us is “faith working through love”.

The centrality of faith is expressed as follows:

Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.
Catechism of the Catholic Church # 846

(continued) But if one does not know that the Catholic Church was founded by God as his means of salvation, then they too will be saved dependent on the purity of their soul and their loyalty to God’s commandments. The reason is because we are saved not by our own efforts - neither by our own professed faith in Jesus or our works but by the grace of God! The favour spoken of in the Quran that is the hallmark of the ‘straight path’ in the first sura! And God, by his grace, has the power to save anybody by extraordinary means, for all things are possible to God. The ordinary means of salvation is the Church but if somebody genuinly does not feel by their reason that the Church is of God and is his means of salvation, then they can still be saved through the grace of God since God is loving and merciful. And how will God judge that person and decide if they should be saved? By their moral character of course and how strong their faith in God is as limited by their circumstances.

Indeed such people may actually be Christians without knowing it. They may embody the fullness of Christ’s love and passion and posses true faith without conciously being aware that he is the saviour of mankind and the means of their salvation.

*Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience – those too may achieve eternal salvation.
Catechism of the Catholic Church # 847

Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men.”

Catechism of the Catholic Church # 848*

Some compare the Church to Noah’s Ark when descring salvation. It is not impossible for someone to “survive the flood” of sin by clinging to whatever driftwood is around or by trying to cobble together a raft from bits and pieces of whatever floats, but the Ark is a far safer choice to make. Likewise, non-Christians can be saved simply through God’s own choice, made for His own reasons but it is far safer for any individual person to turn to the Catholic Church. Thus, it is pivotal for Catholic Christians to exhort others to take this safer path, indeed the only true and ‘straight path’ described in the Quran which it calls, tThe path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor’. That path is faith in Jesus Christ who is and was and always will be the only true Son of God, indeed God himself incarnate, the Second Person of the Trinity who died for our sins!

As far as Christianity is concerned, Christ mentions one, and only one thing that unfailingly leads to perdition—blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. No other path is explicitly and universally excluded by Christ’s words.

The question of salvation for those outside of Christianity is secondary to what the Church expects of Christians. As the Eastern Orthodox Saint Theophan the Recluse warned:* “You ask, will the heterodox be saved… Why do you worry about them? They have a Saviour Who desires the salvation of every human being. He will take care of them. You and I should not be burdened with such a concern. Study yourself and your own sins… I will tell you one thing, however: should you, being Orthodox and possessing the Truth in its fullness, betray Orthodoxy, and enter a different faith, you will lose your soul forever.”*

I hope that this has answered your questions Elwill 👍

Elwill,

Go to CatholicOnline.com and read about the Christian who witnessed the attack on believer in their church…they forgive.

Christ said to forgive…

Only forgiveness can bring true peace in this world because before God we are all equal.

We pray the rosary daily for the conversion of sinners and the perseverance of the just.

God has written the natural law on all hearts. Those who MURDER have broken that law. God decides what happens to them, not us. Just because someone calls on Allah (which I understand means God in Arabic) does not mean they don’t go to Hell.

For a religious leader to preach that murder will lead you to paradise is morally wrong. And God will judge him.

Atheists deny God. Pagans may not know of God or Jesus but be living moral lives. God decides all, not us.

Elwill,

Please read the new thread on Scripture in the Mass…Sam came on…and shared some of his reflections of what he saw at a Mass…People are explaining to him the Liturgy of the Word (Scripture readings)…that ends at the Prayer of the Faithful.

I have been a reader at Mass. So I shared with him my experience…and we have to do things all the same way. If you read it, you will see my refererance in what we pray for at Mass. We never curse anyone, but pray for all the people of the world, for our separated brethen (non-Catholic Christians), and for world peace.

hello elwill alsalam alikum

it’s only one verse and there are many hate verses in the quran for those who dont believe in god and mohammed

moreover i hope you are arabic so you can google هل يجوز الترحم على الكافر

or visit this website

islamic-fatwa.net/fatawa/index.php?module=fatwa&id=8452

:: as for your second question i want you to know that we can pray for anybody

even though they might be in hell

only god knows what is in human heart … that’s why he will come and judge all nations one day

but i dont think any christian will tell me no dont pray it’s against jesus christ teaching or it’s a sin !!

did you get what i mean ?

leaving islam is not only because this verse but i can say it was only the begining point

i know the haddith that you put but you do know what happen to the jews in madina right? they were all kick out man ,boys , girls, Families and tribes , some of them were killed

see what mohammed says at the end of his life :

“I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim.” – Sahih Muslim 19.4366

is this an act of love ?and do you believe deep in your heart that god will approve such teachings ?

i am not saying islam is all evil and and review mohammed only in negative way

but in islam you call mohammed the best person in the history of humanity and he have the highest morality of all mankind

but his teachings and act does not make him in such position

and islam itself take many of his teaching from Judaism

i invite you to try to understand jesus christ and his story and why he is the messiah and read about the christian faith not from an islamic view but from christian view and books and pray to god that he guid you to the truth because you will not see the truth of you did not ask god help

god bless you

How many of us would have the courage to convert if we knew it might mean our death? I love to read these stories from former Muslims because it shows that even violence and threats of death cannot keep Jesus, the Lord of Love, from the hearts of those who seek him.

God bless you Arabic Christian!

There is a book by a man who used to be an atheist - it’s titled “The Case for Christ.” Lee Strobel is the author. His wife became a Christian and he saw wonderful changes in her, and he had to prove to himself that Jesus really is the Son of God. amazon.com/Case-Christ-Journalists-Personal-Investigation/dp/0310209307/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1291578631&sr=1-1

Many former Muslims say that once they understand that God WANTS a relationship with them, WANTS them to know him intimately, they are so amazed since Islam teaches that you are only to submit and that you cannot ever know the mind of Allah.

And from what I have read about Mohammed, he was influenced greatly by Jewish and Christian traders who traveled through his area. The earlier suras of the Koran were the peaceful ones but the ones after his tribe rejected his prophecies are the ones who turn against Jews and Christians. I am reading “The Sword of the Prophet” by Serge Trifkovic which has been very enlightening to me. http://www.amazon.com/Sword-Prophet-History-Theology-Impact/dp/1928653111

May God bless you in your exploration!

:signofcross:

p.s. Let’s all pray for the Muslims who have had their hearts touched by Christ and are seeing with clear eyes for the first time!!!

what is the prayer which deads may need ? you know and i know that the prayer will be for fogiveness and mercy and salvation upon him in his second life . is that right ?

well , do you think that when a christians ask forgivness for an athiest , will God accept thier prayer ? if it yes then i can say that christ not the only way for salvation
if the answer is no , then your prayer not exceed the meaning of respect

tell me what is the view of christianity about this point . please

Thank you for all the responses! I really appreciate that. I’ll get to some individual questions that were asked in just a minute. I will say though that I am leaning more and more towards the Church… we (my husband and I) have been researching for awhile, as things began coming up in Islam that we have a hard time believing. We attended mass last night at a local church (we are both American)… and it was amazing. Nothing at all like what I was expecting, but at the same time I’m not sure what exactly I WAS expecting to begin with LOL. Every word out of the priest’s mouth was about loving others because God loves us… he spoke about a lot of things that are important in Islam as well- such as caring for the poor, the lonely, and the elderly- it’s interesting as we learn more to see how similar Roman Catholicism is to Islam. Obviously there are some big differences especially regarding how God views us and who exactly Jesus, may peace always be upon him, is- in Islam he is a prophet, a great prophet, but not the son of God, and the manner of dress for the women is also different. But there seem to be a lot of similarities as well that I keep noticing.
I agree, haha.

Hey I was wondering, did you understand that Arabic thing?

And to add on here… I’m kinda the other way around here, I’m Catholic heading into a direction toward Islam. Mainly because I have doubts believing Jesus was God. And I do not see really how the ‘God of Islam’ or the ‘God of Christianity’ differ as it’s kinda getting implied in this thread. I believe God loves those who love him. I think Jesus stood his ground and meant what he said. I wholeheartedly believe God is love however I think Christianity sometimes gets a little above themselves.

From Matthew… Jesus own words…
"Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, `I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’
"Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s foes will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

And what’s up wit this… from Paul
If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is consecrated through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is consecrated through her husband.
So an Atheist is saved because his wife is faithful? O rly?

TheRealJulianne…

I read the testimony of a Christian who survived the attack on the Christian Church in Iraq…people so afraid, but saying, ‘Ok, ok I die…’…I ask God to give me their strength of faith…to die for Jesus.

I think there is more merit in dying for Jesus and the sake of the kingdom than killing other innocent people…any Muslim with God’s presence in his heart knows what happened there was wrong.
