Or does this free one to “cherry pick” whatever verses fit their theology, and reject all those which do not as inauthentic?

Not being an expert on the matter, I know that Muslims acknowledge Jesus as a prophet and they even show honor to Holy Mother Mary; however, they choose to view the Qur’an as being without error rather than the Bible.

Therefore they have no respect towards the christian Bible as they consider it a lie.

In my understanding I think Muslims can read and even revere the Bible but any verses that are in contradiction with the Qu’ran or Hadith etc… Then the Qu’ranic or other Islamic text always gets ascendancy. So yes basically. They primarily read the Torah and the Gospels in the Bible. This comes from the fact that Muslims believe that God had revealed truths to people in the past e.g. Jews, Christians, Hindus but they all erred and deviated from the truth and Islam restored that. So they believe kernals of truth can be found in other religions but also with distortions. (And they see the Jews and Christians as closest to having kept the truth, though they’re still wrong.)

Islam officially declared the Bible as a corrupted book, therefore Allah have replaced it with Quran, so Muslims don’t have to “cherry pick” anything now, sadly if any Muslim sees a Bible here in Saudi Arabia, he/she should send it to the shredder machine because it’s prohibited even to read such a book, as it happened here and here.

There is a great big difference between what some muslims say in polite conversation, and what they actually practice. Those who live among us in the west have learned enough about tolerance to make statements about believing in the same God and reading the Bible. Next time there is an opportunity, ask if they actually have read the Bible. Ask which verses they agree with. They are likely to mumble something about the story of Noah and the flood, or some other part of the Old Testament that has been incorporated in some form in the koran.
Practicing muslims believe it is their mission to convert you and the world. They do it in a very nice, friendly and appeasing way. But, that is what they are doing. If it fits their plan, they will say nice things about your faith and your holy book. In the end, their aim is to promote the koran and its teaching.

It’s not that simple. Islam relies on the Bible for its own validity.

Any claim that relies on error for proof of its truth is in error itself. To overcome this, Islam claims that only parts of the Bible are “corrupt”, but this doesn’t wash. Most counter by asking, which parts are corrupt? But consider which Biblical doctrinal statements might be true according to Islam. For example, is the Sermon on the Mount true? I have asked many Muslims and have never gotten an answer, and the reason is simple: a consistent one doesn’t exist. If the Sermon on the Mount is a corruption, Islam would have to disparage the desirable attributes of the Beatitudes; if it is not a corruption, where does it appear in Islamic foundational texts since they are supposed to return us to the truth?

IMO, eternity is a long time and to reject Christ as our true Savior is about as ignorant as it can be. I’m sorry that our Christian nation has a communist and probable closet muslim in the White House. God help us!

Muhammad lived around 600 A.D. The Quran was written after his death in 632. And yet, Muslims tell Christians that our Sacred Scripture isn’t authentic. Specifically, the Quran denies the divinity of Jesus.

He made this claim so the ball is in his court.

Did you ask him to show you the corruption(s). What is authentic and what is not. You need specifics from him.

The muslim Isa written their koran is not Our Lord Jesus Christ.

And the reason they choose to view the koran as being without error is because it is written in their book.

It stats that allah will protect this koran from corruption. Koran 15-9

There is also another verse which states something like… if it were from other than Allah they would find in it many a discrepancy. Koran 4-82

They do consider the Bible a lie and that it has been changed throughout the centuries by the pen of men… however… they have no problem using our “corrupted” Bible to find their prophet mentioned in there.

Muslims will tell you that they believe in the Bible ( The Gospel , the palms , The Torah ) . However , they believe that those books do not exist in our time , since the Jews and Christians corrupted it , in places like Saudi Arabia , the Bible is not allowed to enter the country ! they treat it as if it’s a Drug or marijuana

Personally, to me that’s just a PC way of saying they don’t believe in it.

The basic disappointment for me when discussing this kind of thing with a Muslim is that they drop the subject!

Maybe Im lucky.

Seriously though, my first point of contention with them is the Isaac/Ishmael confusion. And this is where they decide not to talk any further.
