I already said that the Pharisees were referring to the Roman Emperor who was Augustus Caesar at the time of Jesus. So what?Otherwise I was right in saying that Kaisar was very much there at the time of Jesus.
He was collecting some tax fromt he Jews too.
…
I would ask sedonaman again about the Kaisar of Rome. And I ask about the tax that Jews were paying. Why they were paying that tax?
Your reference to this incident in the Bible is an attempt to claim that Jesus approves of the jizya, and a lame attempt at that. The jizya is not like the tax the Romans levied. From the standpoint of the conquered, its similarity to the Roman tax is only that it was payment demanded and collected by a conquering force. That’s where the similarity ends. Calling the jizya a tax is a polite term for the criminal extortion it was because it was demanded from only dhimmis and not Muslims as well. It was a price dhimmis paid for Muslim permission to go on living. The Roman tax was applied to everyone, including rich Roman citizens, in all their conquered lands which included people of widely varying religions. No one could avoid the Roman tax by converting to Roman polytheism, but dhimmis could avoid the jizya by converting to Islam.
