Islam is a False religion…period. Thier religous ceremonies such as a dervish is a form of worshipping **their false God **(No its not the same God becuase they deny the Trinity which is the principle trait of our God). If this happened inside a Catholic Church it is an abomination. It would be no different than having pagans hold an Isis worship ceremony in you local church.
Are you not aware of what the Catechism says?
841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and **together with us ****they adore the **one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day."330

Dale M assuming you’re right about the dance being meditative, why eould they hold meditative dances in a catholic church? This just seems to be more of a cultural exchage than anything else. Correct me if I 'm wrong but didn’t the Pope visit an Islamic place of worship?
He did; but, he did nothing offensive when he went there. The problem is that just as Muslims expect us to respect their mosques, they need to repsect our sanctuaries. I hope that the pastor had the good sense to remove the Blessed Sacrament from the Tabernacle. The one time that our bishop had granted a dispensation to use the cathedral for a Protestant wedding, we had to stay for the whole service to make sure that the integrity of ous sanctuary was maintained. Furthermore, the deacon was instructed to remove the Blessed Sacrament and place our Lord in the Tabernacle in the back chapel that we use for Holy Thursday.

Is this just your opinion or has the Pope spoken against it?

Who cares Jim ? Anything goes, right ?

The thing is… never mind. Can I just ask you a question ?

If a group of non Christians, proudly presenting an act of their faith, with their backs turned to a Tabernacle which contains the Blessed Sacrament, does not offend you as a Catholic, what does ?

bones, I’d like to point out that the owner of the blog seems to have suspect motives. Notice the text of the blog’s header. Wants info on churches that are closing, and also displays items for sale on eBay ? Seems to want a heads up, so as to profit from these closings.

I find the photos offensive to be sure, but …

Amen brother. It is a CATHOLIC Church.

We should make use of the very unused, almost forgotten, thing called “common sense” 🤷
Yeah, reminds of what A.K Chesterton said, “Minds who give into too much open mindedness tend to be empty on both ends of the spectrum.”

How do you know they’re non-Christians?

How do you know, that the Blessed Sacrament is even in the Tabernacle. From the pictures, I can’t tell. I couldn’t see the vigil light

Does adoring mean the same as worshiping?
According to what that passage says I would think so. After all adoration is for God alone. It specifically states that they hold the faith of Abraham and that they are included in the plan of Salvation. I was responding to THurifer2 charge that they worship a false god. According to the Catechism they don’t.

I know who you were responding too but I am so unclear about is the definition of what worship really is. From my memory it means external (outward) and internal. Now while we may share some of the same OT origins, we aren’t in the OT and we NOW know that Jesus is part of the Trinity and of God and if we can’t worship God without acknowledging Jesus’ divinity then how can a muslim who doesn’t believe that Jesus is God.

Why is Muslim worship going on in a Catholic Church? Talk about apostasy.
Muslims are allowed to meditate in Catholic churches (for example if they attend a mass they can meditate quietly in their pew). 🙂 It’s a meditative dance, not a prayer directed to Allah. I don’t see the harm in a cultural exchange like that.

The ‘enemy’ isn’t other religions like Islam, it’s secularism.

The problem with that is where does it leave the Jews? Judaism in today’s world is not the same as that in the first century. They don’t acknowledge Jesus’ divinity either, or the Trinity.

The Muslim’s and Jewish understanding of God is not the same as ours. But that doesn’t mean they do not worship the same God.

My husband does not look at me in the same way as my children or my parents do. That does not make me into many people. I’m still one me. The people I love simply have differing views of me. I believe this is the way it is with Muslims, Christians, and Jews. Our differing views of God does not mean that he is many. He is still the one God, we simply have a different way of looking at him.

My husband is the one with the most complete view of me. He is the one I share my thoughts, feelings, and history with. My children have the most incomplete view of me. Simply because there is a number of things that they are simply too young to be able to comprehend.

I believe that we as Christians are like my husband with the most complete view of God and the Muslims are like my children with an incomplete view of God.

I hope this helps, I’m still working on understanding this myself. 🙂

Hey Guys the point would seems to be that DANCING in a Catholic Church is inappropriate regardless of who it is. Since Vatican II all sorts of performances have popped up for one reason or other be it to make the service more interesting, to foster understanding or whatever. As Catholics our worship is regulated to keep it within certain Liturgical bounds. Extracurricular activities should take place in the parish hall or auditorium PERIOD.

As for Islam, well, understanding is needed all around but let us not misunderstand the fact that radical islam is Islam, also and it is becoming more and more apparent that the least likely people are active in the radical element. We might hope for and work for peace and understanding and practice the love of Christ but let’s not fall into the fools trap and shut our eyes to the serious problem of Islam. Since Islam first came into existence it’s goal has been to crush Christianity and at one time it came very close to doing so. Certainly many good, God loving people practice Islam but sadly they have bought the bit of truth that covers a larger untruth.

As Catholics we are privileged to have the whole truth from Jesus Christ. We must forever protect that truth from being watered down with the lie. The great deceiver roams this world like a lion devouring everything in his path. Often he takes the form of something good like an angel to deceive the unsuspecting and passing on his lies with just enough truth to be reasonably believable. Let us not be lulled into a false security.

Dancing in the liturgy is prohibited. Dancing in Church, although we may not like it, isn’t necessarily inappropriate nor prohibited.

The context of what is going on in the photos presented by the OP is missing. We’re only given commentary by the website which seems to have a neo-Catholic bias.

A lot of Anglican parishes in England are renting themselves out as part time mosques. They’ve already stripped their Churches of an signs of Christianity that might offend a Muslim.

Perhaps this church is preparing for the same eventuality?

Well, Anglican’s will do what they want, irrespective of the Roman Catholic Church.

I wouldn’t want to speculate what this particular church is doing, especially based on the source of the article.

Have you got a link for this?

If it was done during Mass, I would have REAL problems with it. I still have problems with it. Would they allow infidel 🤷 dancing in their mosques?

I’m curious as to why you are so quick to dismiss the original source of the article. The big red flag that I see here is that the Whirling Divirsh is being allowed while “liturgical dance” is prohibited. Ecumenism doesn’t mean that the Church is selling out and speaking out of both sides of her mouth. The Church maintains her fidelity to the Truth, and this Truth includes remaining faithful to her Traditions, which also include the appropriate use of her worship spaces.

Having a Whirling Dirvish performance inside the Church promotes a false sense of ecumenism. We are prohibited from celebrating the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, per Redemptionis Sacramentum in mosques, Jewish synagougues, etc:
[109.] It is never lawful for a Priest to celebrate in a temple or sacred place of any non-Christian religion.
It would have been better for the Whirling Divirsh performance to have taken place in the parish hall. It would have kept a lot of problems from creeping up.

Because blog sources are often not credible and in this case, its a neo-Catholic source.

Besides, I’m a natural born skeptic. 😃
