b_justb,

No I think you miss understand what I am trying to say. I detailed what I do because I thought I might be violating their religion. It is not one I know much about. The muslims are special to me for thier quiet respect and the way they are polite. They are also special to me because when persecuted they reflect what I believe we all should do. They simply pray and look sad. I have seen awful things done to these people and have developed respect.

Yes there are those who say they are muslim just as there are those who say they are catholic, protostant etc… and yes people do play games. Here is the funny part… If you observe them and watch the truth of the matter is usualy revealed. I still maintain security it is just a matter of avoiding doing anything in ways that violate someones religion it takes a little extra effert but it can be done. I do not worry about what is in ones heart that is not for me to judge… Perhaps the person is new to his religion??? The trick is in watching and having your heart guid you. I do not just maintain security I speak with everyone and most of my yard I know well. I make concessions for everyone but yes the muslims are special to me they withstand so much and never strike back they also take their religion very seriously and if one is in their midst that is not a true muslim then that to is revealed in very short order. Plus do you think that they do not know about what I do??? Do you think anyone of any of the faiths on my yard do not know that I would move heaven and earth to make it possible for them to obseve their faith with out violation??? They do not appreciate it any more than I or you would if someone put that in jeapordy just to play a game or get one over on me.

Booklover,

Have you noticed that not one muslim yet has gotten into this arguement??

I tried to read a little of what you posted “here” but must confess a wariness as I have never read the Karan. I only point out what I have seen over a period of years.

Ike,

Yes they are branded C for convict contrary to what you might believe. check it out for yourself.

I have a question… I am a catholic but I work as a corrections officer in a prison. Contrary to what most believe I have found muslims to be peacfull and extremely polite and respectful of woman. I believe that violating their religion is wrong so this often conflicts with my job. I do not know much about their religion and I try to make as manny allowances as I can.

Durring Ramadon last year I was often made fun of by other officers because I refused to pat search any muslim or in anyway interupt their prayers or touch their prayer rugs. I was hypervigilant about how thier food was made and refused to allow it to be cooked on any serface that meat had touched. I had made it clear to the man of that faith that once Ramadon was over that I had no choice but return to normal operations. However because I don’t know much about their religion feel that I violate it in some way in my day to day dealings and I feel guilty because it violates what I believe to violate their religion.

Right now if I walk in on them praying I do not bother them. I glance long enough to make sure of security and bow avert my eyes and walk away. I make sure that I do not touch their holy things when on my monthly and still refuse to touch the prayer rug rather I have them unfold it and then place it in a secure place where I won’t touch it inadvertantly.

Am I wrong to do this and is there more I don’t know about that I should be watching for. I am very resourcefull and can figure out how to do things and still maintain security.
Always come back to the Golden Rule. How would I want to be treated in the same circumstance?
When I was in Galveston, my roommate was Hindu. Out of respect, I did not eat meat in the shared appartment. If I wanted a hamburger, I went to What-A-Burger so as not to cause her scandal. Respecting another’s faith is a recognition of that person’s convictions and does not mean acceptance of that person’s beliefs. This respect can be an opening to dialoque that bridges the gap of misunderstanding. It is faith in action.

Is this realy what is meant??? or what people believe is meant???

To learn to be a catholic you must first go to a catholic. I can find many sites on the internet that have bible statements that would in fact if taken by themselves disprove catholisism. They are taken out of context.

DebCWil,

I could not have said it better myself:thumbsup: Obviously I didn’t:blush:

Those quotes I posted in the link are directly from the Quran!

Booklover,

And they are out of context. Just as if you went to an anti-catholic sight. Listen I am not saying I believe their religion is right or wrong all I am saying is I will not treat them badly because what I might fear they will do or what I have been told they did. What I am saying is this I have observed them both in and out of prison and I have never not once seen anything violent about them in fact I see just the opposit. Again I ask you have you noticed not one has entered in this argument even though I am quit sure there are things here that seriously violate what they believe?? Have you seen one strike back in words?? I do not take everything I read (except the bible) by anyone as gospel truth rather I watch and observe.

How do you know that they are out of context since you said you had never read the Quran??

Good grief! No one has stated that they should be treated badly! Where did you get that notion?

What are you trying to prove by your insistence that they have not replied to this thread??

just the fact that they have not said anything when it became an argument!! Sooo violent that they remain quiet when their faith comes under fire. No I have not read The Karan but as I said it takes a catholic to teach catholisism. You can’t go to a protostant or any other religion to learn it. The same goes for muslim religion. The post you gave me goes to a non-muslim sight. And I noticed there were passages missing. Look for yourself as in anti-catholic sights they post what makes us look bad if taken at face value. I have only commented on what I have seen and freely admitted What I do not know.

of course there are practicing catholics in prison a lot of them. As with all religions I treat them all with respect as to their laws and beliefs. I am known to bend over backward to make sure they are respected. The reason I say muslims are special to me is because When all that 9/11 sadness happened I saw them persecuted, hated and thier religion violated in contrast when the bad stuff came to light about what priests did to children there was no real persecution, questions were asked but for the most part no ones religion was puposefully violated they were not grouped as the muslims were.

As for them converting in prison… The same amount of conversion happens with all faiths. Sadly there are not enough people of religion who volunteer to go to the prisoners. Who because of thier circumstances or vulnerable to begin with and are very needy. As for when they get out?? They paid the price and in theory repaid there debt to sociaty but are again victimized by our communities when judgement is passed and they are denied the jobs they need to support thier families. Tell me is this right???

The muslims as far as I have witnessed give the saying “if one slaps you on your face turn your cheek and offer it”. its true meaning.
It is nice and kind of you to express concern on how to handle the situations that are in front of you. As a Catholic I have been respectful of other religions and their customs.

But I really have to disagree with you with the above quote you stated, our faith is always being persecuted because of what some priest decided to do. When I decided to revert to my faith I was accused of supporting pedophiles. I have heard many a time priest being spit on or beat up because what a few morally depraved priest did.
Our religion has been the butt of jokes for celebrities and in the media we are always looked at with suspicion and disrespect how is that not persecution?

You also stated :Have you noticed that not one muslim yet has gotten into this arguement??
I dont know if you know this but there have been threads here that were shut down because they got out of hand by muslims.
Just because a religion may seem peaceful does not really make it so. Nor does it make itself equal to Catholicism. Nor do they worship the same God.

I commend you for being repectful as we all should be at all times.

That site is run by ex-Muslims! Again, how do you know that there are passages missing if you know nothing about the Quran?? You’re using the same tactics used by Muslim apologists on this site.

Do you know what takkiya is?

Just as Islam is being persecuted because of a few idiots with a plan???

I stand corrected yes our faith is persecuted. I perhaps miss quoted when I said that. The priest was spit on:confused: . These people are killed out of fear.

Listen I don’t know about what had happened in the past on this board all I know is what I observe and I have stated what I have seen.

i originaly started this thread to ask a question on my behavior with those of their religion and now I regret it because of all this argueing about their religion. I pointed out that not one of them has made a post since this began. I did that for two reasons to point out that even though their religion is viewed as violent not one has been disrespectful even when knowing that my religion is different. and because the things I am reading is disrespectful of their religion.

I will not post again to this thread because if I were muslim I would be hurt and humiliated by the way this is going. I never once said I believed in their religion. Just that I wanted to make sure I was not violating it when doing my job especially if I could come up with a way that it would not happen.

Just as Islam is being persecuted because of a few idiots with a plan???
And where did I say that they weren’t???

She said that the catholic church was not AS pesrecuted as they were and I am sorry but I disagree!! She then later agreed with me.
Christians are being killed everyday because of some idiots with a plan. Excuse me if it bothers me.

You are right but what about ex-muslim sites? What do we do with those? Are they not qualified anymore because they left Islam? Just curious.
Some “well rounded research” would involve them all if a person was truly interested. The ex-muslim site was already give.
🤷

You guys can’t even go three pages without turning a heartwarming display of human dignity, respect, and polite curiosity into yet another mindless, hate-mongering bashfest?

Be ashamed of yourselves. I left the Church years ago, and you still embarrass me by what you’ve done to its doctrines, its disciplines, and its reputation.
