Muslims threaten Europe’s Christian identity, Hungary’s leader says

Hungary’s migrant crisis took another disturbing turn Sept. 3, when authorities stopped a migrant train bound for Austria and attempted to detain the passengers. A husband and wife broke free and placed themselves with their toddler on the train tracks in protest. (Reuters)

Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orban, has made nationalistic and controversial statements in the past. But with his country emerging as a main gateway for refugees trying to reach richer European nations, his words suddenly carry much heavier weight.

On Thursday, Germany’s Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper published an op-ed by Orban in which he claimed that he was defending European Christianity against a Muslim influx by stopping thousands of refugees from leaving Hungary. “Everything which is now taking place before our eyes threatens to have explosive consequences for the whole of Europe,” he wrote in the op-ed. “We must acknowledge that the European Union’s misguided immigration policy is responsible for this situation.”

A Coptic bishop has rebutted the claims of Hungary’s Prime Minister who said migrants are mainly Muslim and threatened Europe’s Christian roots.

Bishop Angaelos: “there is a real risk to human life which we need to address.”

Bishop Angaelos, the general bishop of the Orthodox Church in the United Kingdom, told Christian Today he rejected Viktor Orban’s approach.

Yes, the Muslims threaten Europe’s Christian identity just like the Jews long ago threatened Europe’s Christian identity, and, in some parts, still do. I say expunge both groups ASAP.
