ok , so i had a Muslim try to tell me that his religion is the same as a catholic!!! I found this absurd, but at the same time I did not know a lot of facts about their religion in which I could argue. I did not want to even talk about it because it made me angry. but I still want to know. Can any of you give me lots of examples or scriptures??? thanks 🙂

You could start with this:

We believe Jesus is true God and true man, the second person of the Holy Trinity. While Muslims have a lot of respect for Jesus as I understand it, they think this is blasphemy, that he was merely a great prophet and teacher.

Well, I think he was saying that they believe in that also. That’s why i was confused!!!

I think he was a bit confused about Islamic teaching. Though it is true that Muslims have great respect for Jesus and teach that he was a prophet, it is also true they do not believe he was the Son of God (obviously). There are actually some Muslims that believe when the end times come, both Mohammed and Jesus will come down from Heaven, and that Jesus will act as an emissary for the Christian Church to lead them to the truth.

Personally I find it to be extraordinarily interesting that the 3 major religions in world history all basically center around Jesus, and the question of who He really was.

Muslims believe god gave one set of scriptuers to everyone, but they were corrupted over time. They regard Jews and Christians as trying to follow the true path god set out, but they are handicapped by the corruption that slipped into their scriptures and religion.

They believe Mohamed set things back on the true course god originally ordained.

So, they see all Peope of the Book as trying to follow the true path. In this sense, they see Islam, Christianity, and Judaism as the same. There were also other People of the Book (I think 27 in all) but the other 24 have lost all touch with their original god given religion.

The basic core of Islam is, “There is no god but god and Mohamed is his prophet.” This is reflected in the teaching that god has no partners. That is a rejection of the Trinity and worship of anything but a single god. Jesus is seen as a great prophet whose message was lost and corrupted.

This is a very short description, lacking in many details, but I think it is essentially correct.

Personally I wouldn’t get upset as he might have been trying to find things in common with you. I had a Sikh friend say the same. Some Muslims hate Christianity and probably would not want to associate with it at all. So it’s perhaps better that he had a kinder view.

It would really depend on what he meant. It seems most likely that he was saying the God worshiped by Muslims is the same as the one worshiped by Catholics. Catholic theologians would agree with this.

But it is hard to say without more information.

Thank youuu!!! that helped me a lot. Next time I will know what to say when someone tells me that lol!
