Musslims and the Virgin Mary

Ok I keep hearing over and over that Musslims regard our Blessed Mother very highly. Do they Really? Well Here is my opion for what it is worth.

1. We believe Jesus Is God and that Mary is the Mother of God
2. They Believe Jesus is just a prophet, and not even the Greatest. Mohammad being greater to them.
   So since we know for a fact that Mary is the Mother of God and they Just see her as the mother of a prophet I am going to conclude they really don’t look on her with a very high respect as we keep being told. They reduce her importance greatly as well as our Lord Jesus Christ.
   To truly give Mary Her proper respect then you must see her as she really is. THE MOTHER OF GOD!!!
   Thank you Father for your Son Jesus and Our Blessed Mother whom we Love and Cherish with all of our Hearts.

I think you’re asking a Muslim to cease being a Muslim.

They do in fact think highly of the Virgin Mary, but within the confines and context of their beliefs. That doesn’t mean that they are reducing her importance. It means that their belief has not permitted them to elevate her to her real importance in the economy of salvation.

It is not intended as a form of disrespect to her. We should see it for what it is, a form of respect within the limits of their beliefs.

All I can tell you is that Muslims do hold Jesus and his mother in high esteem. I don’t know anything about their theology, but every time they mention the name of Jesus, they follow it with “Peace Be Unto Him”.

In 2007, I went to the Sophia Hagia in Instanbul which, at one time, was the largest Christian church in the world. When the Moslems took it over, they painted over all the Christian symbols except for a painting of the Blessed Mother holding the child Jesus. Today, the Hagia Sophia is being restored as a museum. I found it interesting that the paint over the Christian symbols has faded revealing the Christian symbols underneath as though God is reclaiming his church.

Actually, many of the mosaics in the Hagia Sophia were covered or plastered over. This had the remarkable effect of preserving them until they could be restored, starting in the 19th century. Sadly, quite a bit of damage had been done by the Fourth Crusade when the Latin church sacked Constantinople in 1204.

Wow shocking feed back! Im very suprised at the responces! One God, One Savior Jesus Christ. All others are false. Truth is not gray but black and white. Either we are wrong or they are wrong you can’t have it both ways. Ya’ll make it sound like we are just a religion and they are another religion, but the fact is we know the true God and His only begotten Son through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit allways points to Jesus and without Him all souls are lost. If we say they are ok then there is no need for an urgency to preach the gospel. Hell is real and forever. We need to pray for there conversion. Mary Brings souls to Jesus she is the Mother of God Jesus and not just the Mother of a great prophet. I belive with all my heart the greatest sin is to down grade Jesus to a lower state than what He is GOD!!! We are the temples of the Holy Spirit God lives in Us and through us. If we are truly a Child of the living God then we will recognize the importance of the things of God. Today on Ewtn radio I heard the Pope say that the God of a terroist is a false God and He was reffering to those who say they follow Allah and kill. Thank you Holy Father for the Truth. Of course the fullness of the faith exists only in Christ’s Church, the Catholic Church.

And of course the God of a terrorist is a false God. This applies equally to a terrorist who kills in the name of Jesus, just as much as a terrorist who kills in the name of Allah. They are guilty of murder, and taking the name of the Lord God in vain!

Our Church is the true Church. Of that, there is no doubt. However, even our Church teaches that hope is not lost for Muslims:

Catechism "841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.“330”

They of course are not saved by the merits of Islam. They are saved by their mystical, though incomplete, relationship with the Body of Christ that is the Catholic Church.

Terrorists have likely severed this relationship, just as any Catholic in state of mortal sin has done.

Furthermore, the Church teaches that all truth they have leads to a more perfect relationship with Christ through the Catholic Church:

Catechism "843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as "a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life.“332”

Their devotion to Mary, if authentic, will and has lead many Muslims to Christ! Even if they don’t quite make to the Catholic Church there in this life, our Church teaches there is hope for their salvation!

True devotion to Mary, is something I would certainly consider if I had Saint Peter’s place as the gatekeeper to Heaven dispensing “baptisms by desire”!

Today on Ewtn radio I heard the Pope say that the God of a terroist is a false God and He was reffering to those who say they follow Allah and kill.

I do not think that the pope was using this analogy as an opportunity to declare the god of Muslims “false.” As already pointed out, any person who murders in faithful service to their “god” is following a false deity.

I don’t understand your position. If Muslims followed our faith, then they would be Christians, wouldn’t they?
