I am strongly discerning the diaconate and know that after I am ordained I would never be able to remarry if my wife should die before me. However, after reading an article by Dr. Edward Peters, in which he explains that canon law 277 actually calls even married deacons and priests to exercise perfect continence, I am having second thoughts. I read many forums and people seem to be divided on this. If the question were still not clear by the time of ordination I would have a real issue of conscience any time I have sex with my wife. Please help me get to the bottom of this so that I can move forward in this discernment process. Thank you very much.
