Must a married person who is to be a sponsors for an infant Baptism be married in the Catholic Church?

I have looked at the requirements for sponsors for the sacrament of Baptism (Canons 872, 873, 874) and think I understand them. However, the Deacon at our church insists that it is Canon Law that a married person who is to be a sponsor must be married in the Catholic Church. I do not see that requirement in Canon 874 and would like some clarification.

Canon 874, paragraph 3 states that to be admitted to the role of a sponsor, a person must:
“be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be taken”.

For a Catholic to be married outside of the Catholic Church is to not be validly married. This in itself is a mortal sin. Every time such persons have marital relations, they commit a mortal sin. This is not living a life that is in harmony with the faith.
