In reading several articles that I have received from Protestant bookstores, the idea of women submitting to their husbands so as to be under the protection of God is prevalent. They say that it is ordained in Genesis that Eve was the “helpmate” of Adam and under his authority (e.g. God asked Adam first what had happened when they sinned). I’ve always been confused by this concept and would like to know what Catholic teaching is regarding it. Thanks for any help you can give.

CarmelG,
