If a person is under the influence of a drug when they receive a sacrament, is the sacrament still legit?

I know this doesn’t make much sense, so I’ll give an example: A drunk man goes to confession, are his sins still forgiven even though he was drunk when he received the sacrament?

And please, no links 👍

Thanks

Hi,

Certainly, any attempt to receive absolution while intoxicated would render the sacrament invalid–not due to any lack on the part of the sacrament, but due to the penitent’s inability to make full use of his rational faculties.

To deliberately receive any of the sacraments while intoxicated could be a mortal sin of sacrilege, depending on the penitent’s degree of culpability.
