Agreed!

So when is the next document coming out saying that Mass MUST be said ad orientam and you MUST receive the Holy Eucharist kneeling and on the tounge? When is the document going to come out that brings us back to what Sacrosamctum Consilium actually says? (sorry for the rant)
HA!!! I Love it!
:clapping:

The professor of Systematic Theology at our local seminary has given talks on the relative importance of statements in the liturgical documents. One of the things he told us is that the most important instructions are given in the negative. A negative statement carries more weight than the equivalent statement given in the positive.

Your example was actually “should not” so that would be a fairly strong statement. Unfortunately it’s been quite a while since I heard the talk and I don’t know what I did with my notes. So I have no idea how a “should not” stands against a “must”.

I may have to email him and see if I can get more information.

That would make sense. But given the state of the Priests coming out of seminaries and what I know is being taught at Catholic universities, I am very wary of taking statements from professors as perfect. Even if they have a doctorate. But that doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t appreciate the information 🙂
