Must we kneel during the Consecration?

Every year my mother-in-law has a Mass said for my deceased father-in-law around the anniversary of his death. We live in a different county/diocese than my mother-in-law and when we attend the Mass at her church they do not kneel during the Consecration. We have attended other Masses for other occassions in the same diosese but different parishes and the same thing is happening (no kneeling). I feel somewhat uncomfortable not kneeling at this sacred time of the Mass but I realize we are to show unity also. Is this something the local bishop could have given a dispensation for, for some reason? There doesn’t seem to be any reason why the congregation wouldn’t be able to kneel, so I don’t know why they would be allowed not to kneel. Can you please enlighten me on this and tell me if it is something that needs to be addressed further with the parish(s) pastor or bishop?
