Must you have a physical Chaplet in your hand for the prayer to be valid? I have bit of time free in the day where I would love to pray a Chaplet, but do not have one with my due to the nature of my job.

Can I just pray it from memory without it? Or do I need it? I’m confused because I’ve heard one shouldn’t say the Rosary without holding one.

I have prayed a rosary counting dishes in and out of the sink. it is the prayer not the beads… Why do you think we have ten fingers ?

True on both replies.

But is there anything official on this?

No, you do not need actual beads for a rosary or a chaplet, however, if you use a blessed rosary, you can gain an extra indulgence. That’s all.

Prayers cannot be valid or invalid in the same way as, say, a marriage or a sacrament. Prayers just are.

Same here, and a memory!! But i do use Rosary beads when possible as they are Blessed! God Bless, Memaw

If you have a set of chaplet beads that can pray validly all by themselves, obviously artificial intelligence has gotten to the point that computers now have souls. And you should free your chaplet slave.

🙂

Prayers come from humans. Beads and other counting devices are just prayer-assisting technological devices. They can be blessed sacramental devices, but they’re still just devices.

Humans pray. Beads don’t.

More to the point, it’s not as if St. Faustina wasn’t praying the Divine Mercy prayers before she got a set of beads to go with it.

The Rosary is a private devotion, not a liturgical act, or a rite or sacrament.

Prayer is not subject to legal definitions such as validity or illicitness.

We may, as St. James tells us, pray for things that might be inappropriate, and some prayer might be theologically questionable, but format is not going to be a contributing factor to whether the prayer is acceptable and pleasing to God.

Peace and all good!

God is open to receiving prayers from ANYONE at any time.

Like the father of the prodigal son. Look up that parable. Very valuable and important lesson therein.

biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+15%3A11-32

The father was out there desperately waiting and hoping to catch sight of his younger sinful son.

20 “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him."

“‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

ALWAYS … the sinner is ALWAYS welcomed back.

All prayers are welcomed at all times.

And the prayers don’t need to be elaborate.

No special format.

“God … please help me.”

In the secular world … there is something called “The Astronaut’s Prayer”.

I can’t print it here.

Because it absolutely does not fit into any format.

But you can look it up.

With all of the many disasters and near-disasters in the Apollo Moon landing program, I have to believe that God heard and responded.

“‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

everything I have is yours. 32

You also have to understand God’s INFINITY.

It is different from mathematical infinity.

Billions of people … can SHARE in God’s INFINITY.

Some of my friends INSIST that there is only so much good stuff to go around … and if you get something good, then there is less for them.

But that’s not the way it works.
