My aunt and stepmom are dying

Hello Friends,

As some of you know, I’ve been posting the last few weeks about my Aunt Marge, who is 88 and has been very ill with a blood disorder, followed by pneumonia and staph infection. She was moved to hospice a few days ago and is not doing well at all. The doctors say she could go at any time.

This is bad enough - I love my aunt desperately and she thinks of my brother and I as if we were her own kids. I was supposed to be brought into the church this Easter but had to postpone so I could go out to see her (she lives about 2,000 miles from me). I keep assuring her I’ll get it done as soon as I can and actually had it scheduled for tomorrow morning. I called my Dad (who, with my stepmom has also gone there to be with my aunt) this morning and he said he’d be sure to tell my aunt and my stepmom as they’ve been so excited for me joining the church.

A few days ago my stepmom (Bea) suddenly took ill and after tests they determined she had a gall bladder infection. They removed the gall bladder but there was a complication and she had to go back in for a second surgery. We all thought she’d recover quickly after the second surgery, but instead she’s gone rapidly downhill, and is now - as I just learned from my father tonight - also in danger of imminent death.

None of us can believe that this is happening, and my poor Dad (who is 86 himself) is in complete shock. (So am I, frankly.) It feels like the world has gone upside down.

I realise this is a long post, but I just wanted to add one thing: my dad & stepmother were married 5 years ago. They were high school sweethearts who got separated during WWII. After having lost touch for 58 years, against all odds they found one another again and got married when they were 80 and 81 respectively, and have been joyously happy ever since.

This is all so devastating for all of us. Please, please pray for my family! I just don’t know how we can bear to lose them both at once. :nope:

PS - I’ve temporarily postponed my first communion / confirmation yet again. Hoping for Wednesday but it all depends on my family situation. Please pray for strength for all of us!

Lord, watch over Miss Echo’s family as they struggle with these trials. Bring with you your healing grace to pour forth upon her both her aunt, and her stepmom, and your tender love and mercy to comfort this family as they prepare for the loss of loved ones. May you be with them throughout, comforting and consoling them. May they feel you ever present, and look to you always in faithful prayer to carry them through the darkest of days.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
 
And, remember to trust the Lord in this trying situation. He knows best.
 
Thank you all so much for your prayers. No word yet from my Dad. We’re all just so devastated and heartbroken.
