I worked 6 hours and he said he is gonna give me 8. And then asked or 9? I tell him.
I don’t wanna ask for extra money. Feels like greed…
What is your opinion?

I don’t understand. Do you mean that he was going to give you 8 or 9 hours pay when you worked only 6 hours? If you did excellent work, this may be his way of rewarding you, like giving a bonus (tip or gratuity). There is nothing wrong with that. Perhaps he thought the task would take 8 or 9 hours, but you worked so efficiently that you did it in 6 hours. Apparently he believes it is a fair wage for the work you did. It is not greed.

There are laws that say how a person is to be paid. Some work is paid by the hours worked and others are not. Do you know which law applies?

A fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay.
You agreed to 6. If you work for 7, 8, or 9, you should be paid for that overtime.

I worked at night 6 hours. And now he asked me if 8 is good enough? But also said or do I want 9, that I should tell him. Do I want 8 or 9? It doesn’t really make sense that…

This is more offside because I came after work. They usually give hour or two extra for that…

Do you mean that he is asking whether you can work more hours in the future? If so, that is your choice. If you work more hours, then you should be paid more. That is not greed.

Did he tell you that he would pay you for 8 hours, and then did he turn around and ask you if you thought being paid for 9 hours would be more in line with the work you actually got done in 6 hours?

That’s not greed. If he offered you the option, and if you felt like it would be more fair for you to be paid for 9 hours, then that’s simply pay negotiation between an employer and an employee. Questions of sin don’t even enter into it.

My father routinely pays the lawn man more than he “has to”, because his work is outstanding, he’s a dedicated, loyal worker, and his family can use the money.

As a possibly interesting aside, in the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard (Matthew 20:1-16), the workers were not paid according to the hours worked. They were paid a just living wage.

Even today, an employer, if paying with his own money or otherwise given the authority, is allowed to pay more than the amount agreed or required by law. This is commonly done in recognition of excellent work, or as an incentive to keep good workers.

Do you mean that your boss is offering to give you more paid hours of work? Moving you from part time to full time?

As long as working these extra hours will not cut into your other duties in life, by all means accept them. It is not a sin to be paid more money. That gives you greater freedom to use your money to do good things in this world.

no, he asked me can i come after hours to fix something. I came and I did, he went home. I did work in about 6 hours.
Next day he said over message “so I’m gonna put 8 hours for you, is that good? Or 9? you tell me.”

No he is not offering that. He is just asking me do I want to get paid 8 or 9 hours for the work i did in 6 hours. It was after hours that’s why he is paying little bit more. But the question do I want to get paid 8 or 9…? confuse

no, he texted me next day sayin “im gonna put 8 hours for you, is that ok? or 9?” then after half an hour “you tell me”.
I am confused because if he is willing to put 9 then he should just do it. And if i say put 9 then i am not comfortable with that after he asked is 8 ok.

I understand, he can pay more. But he is asking me do i want to get paid for 8 or 9 hours which doesnt make sense to me. Of course many people will say yes give me 9, but i am not so comfortable saying that
