My reply would be “thank you for the offer! Pay me for the 6 hours I worked, and next time you can buy the pizza!”.

If he’s asking you if those hours are ok, and they are not, just tell him the hours your worked.

thats good answer. I did say in the end 8 is good enough for me. Its normal to get paid little bit more because its after hours work

Obviously it’s not the Project Managers money but you don’t know what authority has been given to him by the company so you cannot assume he can’t offer more money.

do you have an after hour guarantee? one job I worked, if you were called at home to come in you were guaranteed 4 hours even if you worked a 1/2 hour. if you stayed after work you had a different guarantee. one job even gave you money (a pittance) for dinner if the overtime notice wasn’t timely

Sounds like your boss values your work and dedication. That speaks highly of you as an employee. As a boss, I have done this type of thing many times in the past. I want to show my staff members that the company is loyal to them as much as they are loyal to our company.

One suggestion…if he offers eight hours and then offers nine, just reply, “Thank you - whatever you think is fine with me.” You’re acknowledging his generous offer to pay you more than what, strictly speaking, you would be entitled to.

As far as sin…no sin here, assuming the Project Manager has the authority to offer you a bonus (which is what paying you extra hours is).

That was my thought but it should have a different rate and the correct hours recorded.
