@TC3033, you have always come across as a good husband and father in your posts. You are supportive of your wife’s faith and are right beside her raising them in it. In some ways, you are more Catholic to me than dads that are Catholic but do not attend mass or force their wife to do all of the teaching and raising their children to believe. You are a blessing to your family, but mostly to your wife.

Just thought you might want to know that. 🙂

Sir, to be a Catholic role model, which is not the same thing as a Christian role model, one needs to be a practicing Catholic. That is not to say that you do not effectively model your belief system nor that you are dragging your children into depravity. Nor is it to say that all Catholics practice their faith or model it or make it a parenting priority…more often than not, they do not in today’s world.

Catholicism is specific and the cornerstone of our Profession of Faith is the belief in ONE Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church…not “general Christian is good enough”.

It appears you view all Christian faiths as equal and same but really none of those faiths think the others are correct. They originated from Catholicism, splintering off when they wanted to either dump part of Catholic teaching or add to it.

lutherans think Catholics are wrong and so on. If your lesson to your kids is generally Christian but that all Christianity is equivalent to Catholicism, that’s fine and your choice but is absolutely not accurate per Catholic catechism. If you do not practice and model Catholic catechism, you are not a Catholic role model.

Thankyou @Irishmom2 , I really appreciate that.

I do the best I can with the situation we have, of course that isn’t always enough for everyone.

Word is that there may be some “turn-over” in the parish this summer, so we may return to their programs in the fall.

Really, because that’s how it sounds…or that my belief system is 360 degrees off a Catholic belief system some how.
none of those faiths think the others are correct.
Really? I’ve never been taught that…not a once.
lutherans think Catholics are wrong and so on.
Like I said above…
you are not a Catholic role model.
I’m sorry that you feel that way, and that somehow my kids are now lacking in some sort of way because of this. I do the best that I can to lead them in a Christian life and stand by my wife’s side at Mass with them. LIke I said, it’s too bad that the parish pushes out families like ours rather than welcoming them in. If they did, we’d probably be much more active there…

The Creed says “catholic”, which means universal, not “Catholic”. The Orthodox, Anglican, and major Protestant religions recite the same Creed.

You are welcome to become a member of a church you have not yet joined. You have not been rejected. You alone determine whether you wish to be a member. You are welcome at church functions and mass and in Catholic Universities and so on, Catholic or not. But you must understand, we are Catholics because we believe in Catholicism and being Catholic involves faith formation and sacraments. Those in the faith have done this work as well.

If it makes you feel any better, please know our doctrine doesn’t change to please baptised, confirmed Catholics either. It is what it is. Not open to change. Nothing personal.

Roman Catholics specifically mean Catholic churches in communion with Rome.

I am ONLY speaking of the Creed as professed in the Catholic Church

Well, if anyone has been unwelcoming they should not have been and I am sorry for that experience. I have attended unwelcoming parishes as well before finding my current parish…cliques.
