Tonight was a very special night for me and my older brother. To tell this story from the beginning is best. My older brother has had problems for years with drug abuse using cocaine plus he has had mental problems due to depression. He lost his job, his family(wife and two daughters) and he finally hit bottom just recently after burning through his retirement fund he went broke. He ended up moving in with his friend who is an alcoholic. His friend finally threw him out mainly over my brother not paying him anything for living there. He was finally homeless. At this point I took him to my home in in early April and my older brother hired him for $6/hr doing labor. To let you know my brother has made between 100,000 and 150,000 a year at his job before he lost it. He has a masters in business and a bachelors degree in chemical engineering. He is a very bright guy. He lived with me for two weeks which was very difficult, we had a fight and he left and ended up living with his friend again because he could pay him rent. After our fight the next day we called each other and patched things up and forgave each other. He asked me if he could call me on a regular basis and talk about things and go to church together to which I obliged. While he lived with me I worked on him about developing a relationship with Jesus and going back to church. My brother has ignored the church for 20 years. He saw how I lived, prayed and how I went to church. He asked me if he could go to mass with me on Saturday nights. We usually go to dinner afterward and talk. I’ve been praying for him in my rosary everyday for months. 2 weeks ago I gave him a rosary and booklet on how to pray it which he gladly took. He is now praying the rosary and learning more about it. I’ve been working on him to go to confession so he could get communion. I told him how to make an examination of conscious. Well today he finally went to confession. The priest forgave him of his sins and told him he could go to communion because he was married outside the Catholic church. Tonight at mass at the sign of peace I shook his hand and said welcome back. He went to communion for the first time in 20 years. I am so proud of him. I thank Jesus and the blessed mother. I give full credit to my brother that hired him to give him a job and I give the bulk of credit to the Blessed Mother who I’ve been praying to for him. My brother has had issues for his whole adult life and has caused much grief and problems in our family. My younger brother even had to have him committed once and the police had to taser him. I can’t believe how fast he converted. I also give him a lot of credit, he really committed himself. To let you know my brother and I have had a strained relationship at best since childhood and we rarely talked or did anything together. Tonight at dinner he told me he considered me a good friend, we’ve even started doing stuff together, tomorrow were going fishing. Mind you this is a guy who hardly talked to me his whole adult life. This is an amazing testimony to praying and praying the rosary and living a holy life. It hit me like a ton of bricks what happened to him tonight. I’ve had an amazing week with him plus me renewing my relationship with my stepson after not talking to him since 2006. He also attends AA like meetings for drug abusers and has reached 6 months clean. All he needs now is a good job and he can have his life back. I just wanted to share this story with all of you. Glory and praise to Jesus and the Blessed Mother.

PS My whole family has tried to help him in various ways over the years but guess which way worked. Getting him back to the church ! He is so changed, he is calmer and easy to talk to now.

I am SO happy for you guys… that’s absolutely amazing.

I’ll say a prayer for your whole family!
🙂

Thank you so much. This is an amazing story. I’m not even telling half the stuff he has done or been through. Its been 20 years for him. It proves that sometimes you have to go to the darkness to reach the light.

That is WONDERFUL news, I’m so happy for you all :extrahappy::extrahappy:

Once a person knows the truth, it never leaves them. May all prodigals come home.👍

Never underestimate the power of the rosary! Peace be with you and your family. 😃

Praised be Jesus Christ!

"The tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to him, but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” So to them he addressed this parable. “What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.” Lk 15:1-7

Thank you all for your kind comments. Now I pray he remains zealous in his faith.

JohnPaul64, I am so happy for you, your brother, and your whole family. Isn’t the power of prayer amazing? Ask and you shall receive :). This is indeed a wonderful story. I am glad to hear you are going to continue praying, I’m sure the devil is going crazy with this.

This is indeed jouful news and a strong witness to the power of prayer. I would suggest that you consider attending some Al-Anon meetings to help you better understand what he is going through and prepare you to help him as he goes through the ups and downs of sobriety(as i have during my 23 years of sobriety).

Thankyou…LOL With my conversion back a year ago and his now I’m sure he is going nuts. I’m working on a few others in my family now who don’t practice no more. They are going to be a lot tougher. Do you know why??? Because unlike my brother they live decent productive comfortable lives. I was at a picnic yesterday and their children are picking up on their sinful ways. 😦

I did go to a couple meetings with him while he lived with me to give support. Believe it or not his addiction was the easiest thing to beat. His depression was the worst to deal with but I think the more he prays the easier it is getting for him…I got him saying his rosary now.🙂 I told him he doesn’t have to say it every day but he told me he wants too.

It appears you are handling this very well. You and your Borther will be in my prayers.

That is wonderful, wonderful news!!! Coming from the sister of a brother who had drug issues of his own, I know how very hard it can be. He is a very fortunate man to have someone like you in his life 🙂

Thank you, but I don’t want to take all the credit, my other brothers and sister all have helped him a lot from lending him money to support. My one older brother who gave him the job even though its $6/hr really has helped him a lot by giving him a source of cash. The biggest thing he responded to with me is I got him back into the church and praying. This has really turned him around. I give full credit to the Blessed Mother and the power of the rosary. Thank you to all for the prayers.

I am very happy for you. I wish you Lived together and happily.

Just a follow up here. I talked to him last night and he went to confession again yesterday so I think he really gets it. I’m overjoyed on his progress. Going fishing with him today, can’t wait to talk to him.
