The law is set and perfectly clear in the Code of Canon Law.
Why would you want to discuss it with me - or with anyone?
If you need specific instruction, appeal to a canon lawyer.
No offense, but wow, REALLY!
Your indignation over the very thought of discussion betrays your ignorance of divorce as a sin. It is a sin and the catechism spells it out. Clearly. It is you who requires instruction.

Look dear, I hope you will get a grip and aim your guns elsewhere. As I said:
“You are exhausting me - because the topic of divorce acc to Canon Law has been
quoted at length, followed at length, on a number of CA threads over the past month.”

Use the Search function at the top of the page and find ALL the threads on divorce.
No indignation -
simply no interest in bringing you into the reality of the Code of Canon Law.

You want to LEARN, then learn.
But spare me your childish insults. OK?
God bless you and 'bye.

I find most of your posts to be tedious and unpleasant.
I’m certain many other Catholics can easily instruct you.
I’m finished with my attempts.

Not as unpleasant as your ignorance. Try a reading class.

@NEC5 I don’t believe anyone here is disputing that the one that CAUSES the divorce in situations where there is not a need to protect safety or security is sinning. But so as not derail the thread, the OP’s SIL is being abandoned. How can we possibly say that she is sinning when she is not the one filing for the divorce - it is her husband that is leaving her and has had affairs with his student. THE OP’S SIL is protecting her children the discussion of anullment only came up should the OP’s SIL ever want to look at the validity of this mess.

You got it.
Thank you.

That is called abandonment and not a moral offense as is clearly mentioned in the catechism. The guy sounds like vermin, which is why people should put themselves through grueling pre-marriage counseling in this age of non-judgmental character evaluation.

Divorce without these types of conditions as identified and described by the Church is a sin whether the person remarries or not. Breaking the vows of matrimony is sinful.

My brother may sound like vermin, but he’s not, he’s just seriously mistaken.

Also, to help clear things, my SIL and brother don’t have children, and while I know they are still married in the eyes of the church, he has not, that I know of, had any “affairs” with his students. I don’t know if he’s seeing this girl or not, only that he keeps talking to her. He certainly hasn’t done anything while living in the same house as his wife.

Again, I fully realize that any romantic relationships either of them have, will be considered adultery. I ask you all to please pray for them. Thank you :gopray2:

More prayers. For you too.
