Consensus at Jersalem not an option?
Should be perfectly fine to ignore that consensus right, if one of those early Christians felt the Holy Spirit was saying something different to them correct? And they must have felt that way, because there was much debate. Agreeing to submit to a consensus, when you may not agree with what the consensus determines, gives authority to bind and loose outside of an individual. I would add that allowing consensus to have authority over an individual, is a form of hierarchy.

I think you misunderstand me. I stated that Jesus wields the power … I thought you agreed that is true within the Catholic framework. Did I not make it clear that the church or churches have the God given authority? Yours over you and mine over me.
And you would submit to your church, even if you disagreed with something they taught? Even if you felt the Spirit was saying something different?

One could not submit if it clearly refutes scrpture

Of course not. But what is clear in Scripture to you, others may read differently, and they feel it is just as clear, using the same language that you do. Examples, abortion, contraception, infant baptism, homosexuality…bread of life discourse metaphorical or literal. If you only agree with the Church when it agrees with you, then you are your own Church, really submitting to yourself under the guise of submitting to a higher authority. Why do you say that Jesus did give that power, but then worry they may teach something contrary? I thought Jesus promised guidance to the Church. Why worry they will err, but not yourself?
