I went to confession last yr. This was a major confession for me, as I confessed a lot of my major sins (after a long break), and returned back to the church (started to attend Mass 3-4 times a week).

Interestingly, I just realized now, that my confession was at a rectory. The priest was dressed kinda casual I think. Maybe it was like dark track suits. And we had it face to face.

My confession was good right? Does the dress code of the priest have to be formal? I just started thinking of this now.

I would think a track suit would be ideal for outrunning your sins!
On a serious note, you should not think about what the priest was wearing. And if you struggle with scrupulously you shouldn’t post here.

It is at least fitting for the priest to wear a stole when hearing confessions as that is the sign of his authority to absolve. Specific rules about what confessors are to wear can vary from place to place.

Nevertheless, the vesture of the confessor never has bearing on the validity of the confession/absolution.

An even more worrisome question is: why is this even a question?
