You have to realize that there are three requirements before a grave sin can be mortal:
*]Full knowledge of the gravity of the sin.
*]Full consent of the will to commit the sin.
*]Gravity of the sin.
Your priest knows far better than anyone on here does whether or not you are in a state of mortal sin. He probably knows that you are struggling with an addiction to masturbation and therefore, this addiction reduces your culpability, thereby possibly making the sin a venial sin your case.
Please do not question your priest. Your priest is your spiritual father and adviser. He is acting in persona Christi in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Trust your priest before you do some people on a random message board.
And if you still don’t know whether or not you can trust your priest, write your bishop and ask him about this. He will give you his opinion on your sin and you can know for sure that your bishop will tell you the truth. However, I see no reason for you to doubt the opinion of your priest.
