Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As many of you know my dad Tom had been battling liver cancer, and with God’s grace and lots of prayers, he lived years longer than we thought he would. The Lord took him home tonight and now we, especially my mom Lois, are in need of your prayers to help us through this transition and grief. Please keep her in your prayers and ask our dear Lord to help her begin her new life without her husband of over 60 years by her side. Please pray that she stays strong in her faith and leans on Jesus, Mary and all of the saints for support. And pray for the eternal rest of my dad Tom and that he be in peace. God bless.

Requiem aeternam dona eum et lux perpetua luceat eum. Requiescat in pace. Amen.

My dear patron Fathers, please pray for this family that they may have strength and healing during this sorrow-filled time.

Praying for the repose of Tom’s soul and strength and comfort from God for you and your mother in this time of transition and grief.
God bless you.

I will never understand when you are typing scripture verses and support notes to those who hurt and you have at least 60 words, you bump something and they are lost to cyberspace.

Two scripture verses I love to be read at our funerals is “DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?” Now, we hurt in our hearts and will miss our loved ones but our spirit sees them beyond the veil and they are well standing beside Jesus watching the show we are putting on for them. You Dad will be saying, “They forgot, their suppose to be rejoicing.” Jesus will say,“They just loved you so and will miss you. When it’s their time, they’ll say,” Why did I shed a single tear?"
The other verse is when Jesus had risen from the tomb and the woman came to care for his body. The angel said,“WHY DO YOU LOOK FOR THE LIVING AMONGST THE DEAD?” Your Dad’s empty shell is there. His spirit is doing great in heaven. Which brings me to the apocryphya book of Wisdom of Solomon. I think it was called Ecclesiesticus. There is another regular book called Ecclesiastes. Anyway, was a nurse. I had a Southern Baptist minister as a pt who had some difficult days. We had pain meds but he wanted to be awake some of the time w his family. So, he chose some uncomfortable moments w suffering. It was distressing for the family. I am a Charismatic Catholic. I asked if I could pray w her- no tongues. And I told her about this Chapter in one of the books that might bring her comfort but it was not in her Bible. She said she’d like to see it. She, actually, used this Catholic Bible Chapter in their Memorial booklet for the funeral. God works in mysterious ways. WISDOM–CHAPTER 3::1-9 BUT, RIGHTEOUS PEOPLE ARE PROTECTED BY GOD AND WILL NEVER SUFFER TORMENT. IT IS A FOOLISH MISTAKE TO THINK THAT RIGHTEOUS PEOPLE DIE AND THEIR DEATH IS A TERRIBLE EVIL THEY LEAVE US BUT IT IS NOT A DISASTER. IN FACT, THE RIGHTEOUS ARE AT PEACE. IT MIGHT APPEAR THAT THEY HAVE SUFFERED PUNISHMENT, BUT THEY HAVE THE CONFIDENT HOPE OF THEIR IMMORTALITY. THERE SUFFERINGS WERE MINOR COMPARED TO THE BLESSINGS THEY HAVE RECEIVED. GOD HAS TESTED THEM, LIKE GOLD IN A FURNACE, AND FOUND THEM WORTHY TO BE WITH HIM. WHEN GOD. HE HAS ACCEPTED THEM JUST AS HE ACCEPTS THE SACRIFICES WHICH HIS WORSHIPERS BURN ON THE ALTAR.
WHEN GOD COMES TO REWARD THE RIGHTEOUS, THEY WILL BLAZE OUT AGAINST THE WICKED LIKE FIRE IN DRY STRAW. THEY WILL RULE OVER NATIONS AND PEOPLES AND THE LORD WILL BE THEIR KING FOREVER. THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN FAITHFUL WILL LIVE WITH HIM IN HIS LOVE, FOR HE IS KIND AND MERCIFUL TO THE ONES WHOM HE HAS CHOSEN." AMEN.

Down in the South here, I was surprised at how the families wll make photo collages or even cd’s of the important days of the loved one’s live w his favorite (if not X rated) music in the background. Usually, soothing music is best. The Titanic Song is good. Your Mom will need help going through his things when she wants to do it. She may want it around for a few months. She’ll need help setting up social security and medicare stuff. Give her a church bulletin of Bible studies. Age of 50 people. Book clubs. Walking the mall clubs. If she has friends, they need to get her out and kids need to visit more. Are grand kids or children nearby so she can have someone to stay w her but not inconvenience the family too much. serve soup at Salvation Army. Donate Time at Catholic Social services. Does she want a job. Does she want to move in w kids. My culture is we move in w kids. They know, i’m coming.I hope you see this before funeral HOpe some ideas were helpful
I’m going to send this so it doesn’t get lost but I do have another thought
God’ grace is your sufficiency. Make sure she is sleeping well. ask MD for light sleep pill?

I will remember you, your grieving family, and the soul of your father in my rosary today. My condolences to all of you.

Rest in peace Tom and may God grant comfort and strength to all who loved him especially his wife Lois.

Eternal rest grant unto Tom, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. :signofcross:

Eternal rest grant to you O Tom. May the God of all comfort be with your family and friends as you grieve. May God and the angels watch over and help your mother and you as you start a new chapter in your life without dad/husband.

Mary.

I’m so sorry for your loss, peregrinans. May God support your family and especially your mother at this time. Remembering them in a novena to the Holy Spirit. God bless.

Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Prayer for a Miracle

God of all creation, you who spoke a simple command and brought forth light from
the darkness, I ask you now to send forth your miracle-working power to heal (TOM). You cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind and by
speaking a simple command, you empowered the crippled to rise up and walk.
You sent forth your life-giving power to all those in need, including those you raised from
the dead. I ask you to send forth your healing power into TOM’s body and give him the strength to fight his illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Prayer to St. Anthony for Those With Cancer

Dear St. Anthony, you recognized Our Lord Jesus as the Divine Healer. In your goodness and kindness, please intercede for TOM , who is suffering from cancer. If it is God’s will, may the gift of healing be granted to him. Comfort him during times of unbearable pain, and ask our Lord to grant him peace and patience in suffering. May God give him the fullness of life here on earth. Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto Tom, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.

I wanted to thank you all for all of the prayers. Just reading all of your kind and helpful posts made this easier to bear.

My mom is getting through this slowly, but surely. She has good days and bad. She hates being alone and suffers when nobody comes to visit. I live 3000 miles away, so I can only call and email, for right now. I know that this upcoming year will be hard, every holiday and birthday will bring with it memories and sadness. However, Lord willing, it will also bring acceptance and healing. Our first test will be Father’s day. The first time in my 47 years I won’t be able to be with or talk to my Dad on that day. At least we can honor his memory and thank God he is no longer dealing with the pain, worry and frustration of cancer. May God bless you all and so many thanks again. You will never know who much it has meant to me.

St. Thérèse of Liseux Prayer From “Story of A Soul”

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise, and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Amen. †

Lord, thank you that you are with me right now.
Your love surpasses all fear.
I give you the anxiety I feel.
I surrender all my worries to you.
Clear my mind;
Calm my heart;
Still my Spirit;
Relax my being, that, I may
always glorify you in everything
I write, speak and do.

Amen. †

:signofcross: :blessyou:

Eternal rest grant him O Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed
Through the mercy of God
Rest in Peace.
Amen.
I am offering my Mass today for your father, your mother and yourself.
May you find strength and joy in your memories and hope in the promise of our risen Lord.
Amen.

Gracious and merciful Father, please have mercy on his soul, and grant comfort to his family and loved ones.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
