Does anybody use “My Daily Psalm Book” by Fr. Peter Frey (editor) to pray the psalms Daily?

Yes it is, I’ve been praying the LOTH for about 5 years now. The reason I’m asking about My Daily Psalm Book is I find the language in LOTH to be pretty bland. I’ve been looking for something with a better translation of the Psalms that I could use that doesn’t require me to bounce back and force between the EF and OF liturgical calendars. It doesn’t appear that a new version of the LOTH with the Revised Grail Psalms will be showing up anytime soon, ideally that would be the best solution.
My understanding is that My Daily Psalm Book contains the book of psalms arranged for each day of the week according to the order of the Roman Breviary on a 1 week cycle; instead of the 4 week cycle contained in the LOTH. That would provide (IMO) a better translation and alleviate the EF versus OF calendar chaos.

I find the same problem with the bland language of the LOTH. While I have not used the prayerbook you refer to, I have used many different forms of the Office and offer my assistance if you want more information on other approved versions.

Thanks! What are the other approved versions? I know of SCP, CP and the 4 Volume LOTH. There is also The Roman Breviary: An Approved English Translation in one Volume from the Official Text of the Breviarium Romanum authorized by the Holy See but that is rare and expensive.
I don’t know Latin so I’m limited although if there were a brief course on Liturgical Latin I would be motivated.

There’s the Monastic Diurnal, which is the pre-V2 Benedictine Divine Office. It is in Latin/English. Here’s a link: MONASTIC DIURNAL
There’s also the upcoming Baronius Press Latin/English 1962 Breviary: BARONIUS
If you want something more abbreviated, there’s the Little Office of the BVM or a printing by Lulu of Lauds and Vespers and Compline for the 1962 Breviary ( VOLUME 1 & VOLUME 2).

I just noticed in Fr Z’s site there was some news about the LOTH in the USCCBs latest newsletter. Of particular note
? In the Liturgy of the Hours (individually or communally), one can make use of the proper collects from the Roman Missal
The Committee on Divine Worship is currently exploring options for some form of updated publication of the Liturgy of the Hours.
This is certainly good news. I’ve prayer the LOTH for a few years but don’t particularly care for the dynamic equivalence translation.

Thanks for these. I have both the Monastic Diurnal from Farmborough and the Andrewes Press. They are both excellent, the issue I have is that I attend a OF Church and these require the use of the EF Liturgical Calendar. The closest EF Church is about 30 miles from my home, bouncing back and forth between the calendars makes my head hurt. Instead of sitting down and quieting myself before God I end up stressed out. Given the choice I would settle on the EF church and calendar but it’s not practical. The books from Lulu look interesting I downloaded the pdfs and am going to take a closer look.
The My Daily Psalm Book and the LOTBVM look promising because they look like they are on a weekly schedule. This eliminates the issue of switching calendars, plus the LOTBVM does have readings for Advent and Christmastide. There is a site that contains the LOTBVM online I’m checking out.
Also, in my previous post I mentioned the USCCB is talking about an updated LOTH, that would be ideal. If they used the Revised Grail Psalms and already approved used of the new Collects in the Roman Missal, what more is there to translate? If I had my druthers they’d add the RSV version of the scriptures, but that’s a reach. If the USCCB can put this together soon I’d be happy.

The Baronius Press LOBVM that I linked to above actually is on a daily cycle with some variable parts for Matins that change on a weekly cycle. You then have some variations for Advent and Christmas for each office. But for the most part, you are praying the same thing each day for most of the year.
For some, this is too repetitive. For others, it is comforting (like the Rosary). Each person has their own temperament and therefore their own preferences in spirituality.
I totally understand what you’re talking about with the differences in calendars. I am going through the exact same thing right now. I’ve settled on traditional devotions that are not tied so closely with either calendar. I pray the Rosary, read In Conversation With God, Compline from the LOBVM, and read a chapter from the Gospels in my DR New Testament. If I feel the urge to supplement, I do the LOBVM, but I never obligate myself. That way, if I don’t do it, I don’t feel like I slacked off for the day.
