I know that some will give me the advice that I should read the CCC, but I ask anyhow.

Yesterday evening I was with my dog in the nearby dog-park (a fenced are where dogs can run free and play) and an other dog did suddenly bite her in her right earlobe (and my hand when I did separete them) and I did commit the sin of anger. And I am still angry. No stitches needed but a lot of blood, so we went home and I did clean the wound and my hand. Problem: I don’t want her to take that bloodthirsty mutt of hers there anymore. And I know I will tell it to her, and I don’t think I can be polite, or let us say, I will not be polite. I know that her dog has been aggressive before, and will most likely never be a “good girl” as my dog is. All my dog wanted was to play with her ball, she can play alone with a ball for hours, I don’t know why, but she does. So, I will tell her, if she is there today, exactly what I think about her and her hound. Do I need to confess before next Communion? I mean, it is a sin if you feel bad afterwards, but I know I will not feel bad. I will feel good.

REALLY good prayer taught me by my confessor: “Don’t let the garbage in my head enter my will.”

I’m an expert in dog behavior. The dog in question has a legitimate behavioral problem and that is the result of any number of things, the most important one being poor socialization and lack of training. A dog known to be aggressive toward other dogs does not belong in a dog park and one does not hand such a dog over to an unsuspecting friend as a caregiver.

Having said that: I think there is righteous anger BUT, in this case, perhaps you may want to cool down a bit before having this discussion. Point out to your friend that dog to dog aggression IS a PREDICTOR of dog to human aggression. She needs to find a certified applied animal behaviorist ASAP (not a dog trainer):
animalbehavior.org/ABSAppliedBehavior/caab-directory

If you are in Britain, they are ubiquitous since they are licensed by the government.

Meanwhile: be certain to care for that wound. A dog bite is not a casual injury. Do not allow your dog to play or interact with this dog: you’re setting your dog up for fear response and injury. You will most likely talk until you’re blue in the face: a “bad” owner is a “bad” owner and they often don’t want to hear about it. You were put in an unfair position but I doubt it was deliberate, it was just stupid. Don’t complicate the issue by compromising your natural tendency to be kind.

When there is a dog fight and your dog is bleeding, and the other dog bit your hand, you have a serious problem. It is normal to have a defensive reaction which is not well thought out. It may be very hard at that moment to be loving and forgiving and be a peacemaker. I do not think your anger on that occasion was sinful.

The next day, you have more options. Think ahead about your actions. If you simply speak the truth to the other dog owner, without menace or threat in your voice or posture, I think that cannot be sinful. You could tell her the facts about her dog’s behavior and tell her how you and the other dog owners feel about it.

Also please investigate whether the city or the dog park has any formal rules about aggressive dogs. If so, you may inform her of the rules. It may be written that aggressive or biting dogs are not allowed, or that they must be restrained on a leash, or restrained with a muzzle.

If no such rules exist in writing, you could suggest to her that she muzzle the dog. You could point out that she is responsible for any veterinary or medical expenses that might be incurred if her dog injures another dog or a person, and so it would be in her best interests to restrain her dog with a muzzle.

Good luck, and God bless you.

I’d report the bite to animal control and let them handle it. Also is there anyone that runs the dog park? I’m wondering if there is a method for specific aggressive dogs to be banned from the dog park.

is anger a sin?

better get that dog tested for rabies.

You got bitten by the dog? You need to sue!!! Get a lawyer and sue!

, I seriously think that is very dangerous that an aggressive dog is running around a doggie park, so I agree you should report to animal control because is a public safety issue. I agree with Fairwinds that you need to get tested for rabies and both you and your dog should get that bite checked by a doctor because dog bites can be serious injuries.

And not joking, if that dog does have propensity to aggresion, I would go to the doctor to get the bite treated and sue the owner.

Thank you all, once again for your answers.

There is a rule that says that a aggressive dog is not welcomed in a dog-park. Sadly it is a rule that is hard encfore. It is up to the other dog owners. And in Finland we can’t sue anyone in the same way as in US. It was a “crime”, but the police have not time to investigate it for a foreseeable time, so that is something I can’t do.

I did not see her yesterday, but when I do, I will tell her that she and her dog, and the crazy thing is that it is not the dogs fault, the “criminal” is always in the upper end of the leach. And I still don’t think I will be polite.

And thank to a very big and long battle against rabies it is almost gone from Finland.
