My doubts on the book of Exodus

OK, I appreciate you giving more information on your thoughts. But given that you are not a fundamentalist or literalist, I am even more confused why you would attack others, calling them names and questioning their faith, for giving their own view of Scripture.
I just do not think it is fair to say that Sacred Scripture has been “corrupted” or that “God never said” some things recorded there, or that the OT “conflicts with the message of Jesus”, and should be selectively disregarded. No Catholic scholar would agree with these positions.

That’s a glib response to a divinely inspired text. So the problem is not solved after all.
But we have four Gospels, not one, and Sacred Scripture is part of Tradition, which is broader and larger than the Bible alone. It literally doesn’t matter if Mark the Evangelist left out some material in the original autographs. The Church has canonized a book, and Tradition tells us what’s in it. You have to look at this from a Catholic perspective, and not the Protestant or sola scriptura or Muslim POV.

That’s fine. But this forum is designed as a place for people to have discussions. Cutting off discussion by belittling, name calling and question the faith of other posters keeps the forum from meeting that goal.

Sorry if I am touchy on this topic, but this used to be a place one could actually talk about Scripture. In recent years, every thread is the same. A conversation starts, within 10 or so posts the bomb throwing and faith questioning starts. Conversation ends. I’d like to have a place to discuss Scripture again.

Edit - not saying that is your fault, or was your goal. I probably got a little off the rails. Let’s try to reset.

Yes, I apologize for belittling and name-calling. I am rather touchy as well, when I was under the illusion that these forums were safe spaces for Catholics to discuss Catholic things, but others come in who are not respectful of the faith, I try to zealously defend the faith but only get myself in trouble for being arrogant and haughty. So I shoot myself in the foot and my credibility and reputation suffer. I regret much about that.

I really don’t see how we can discount the Exodus narratives just because we don’t find the artifacts we expect in the locations we expect to find them. People get surprised by found artifacts all the time.

I’ve noticed this sentiment here among Catholics, and maybe it’s because we feel under siege all the time, so an online Catholic forum is considered relief. But this is part of Catholic Answers. So it’s not a safe space for us to huddle together; it’s a place to discuss apologetics, which is to defend the faith, which means it’s a welcome space for those who do not have the faith and want to challenge it (courteously).
