My essay question

this is my faith and culture essay question…

The essay will focus on an erroneous commonplace about the church. The essay will discuss the commonplace and present a reasoned and solidly based corrective to the error.

any ideas on what this really means and what i could write it on?

English is not my first language so I could be wrong, but I understand it to be a discussion and refutation of a common misunderstanding about the Church or one of its features. The erroneous commonplace could be for example ‘The Church is very rich’ or ‘The Vatican helped the nazi’s’ or something, and it would be your job to refute this.

It means thus;

Write about a common misunderstanding of the Church; explain this misunderstanding; and correct it.

I would personally write about “Worshipping Mary” “Worshipping Statues”; but one could also write about “Vatican Riches” or “Abstinance only causes aids” or “The Church is sexist” etc. etc.
