This is a story that goes back to 1943. When my father was 10 years old he saw a statue of St. Therese at school. He said he fell in love with her, and asked if he could buy the statue. The sister told him that it would be a dollar. He made an agreement to pay a dime a week until he could pay it off.

Some kids were rough housing in school and knocked over the statue and broke the elbow after he had only paid 30 cents. The sister told my dad that she couldn’t sell it to him like that, and that it would have to be raffled. He took his equity in raffle tickets, and won the raffle.

1979: I was struggling with drugs, and confused, and wanting to go to a Catholic community in New Mexico that raised food for the poor in Mexico so I could dry out and find God in my life. My mother told me to say a novena to the little flower.

I prayed the novena to both discern whether I was supposed to go to the Lord’s Ranch, and that I would be given the strength to do God’s will in my life.

Here’s what happened the day I finished the novena. I was sitting on the couch and my little sister walked through the door with a single red rose and laid it on the coffee table in front of me with out saying a word. I said, “Where did you get that” she said, " I picked it out of a garden on the way home from school". She didn’t know that I was praying a novena. A short time later that day my dad came home from work and proceeded to bring in from the car one dozen at a time six dozen roses. He said that an oral surgeon asked if he wanted them… they were given him by a patient. My mother was the only one that knew about the novena. Later that night I went to a conference put on by the priest that ran the community in New Mexico and was asked to take up the collection. When I walked by sister Madonna Buder she said, "I don’t know why but I think I’m supposed to give this to you. She handed me an envelope, and when I was finished I opened the envelope, and inside was a holy card of St. Therese holding a Cross and roses.

I taped some of the rose pedals to the back of the card and placed it in the pocket of some pants I packed and headed to the Lord’s Ranch. When I arrived and unpacked my luggage, I checked my pants pocket to make sure it was still there. The card was missing, nothing else in my luggage was.

I remember years later asking the little flower to take me by the hand and walk me all the way. As close to Jesus as a person can get. It dawned on me Yesterday speaking to my father about it, that she had already taken me by the hand at the moment of conception, and I didn’t even realize it until I talked with him about how long he had that statue.

If you’re struggling with your faith, or trying to find it. If you are struggling with drugs and alcohol, or sexual immorality, I highly recommend this novena ewtn.com/therese/novena.htm

This little Saint is a bulldog and she won’t let go once you ask for her help. She gets her way in Heaven just like she did in life when she wanted to enter Carmel at 15. She’s very stubborn and won’t let you go.

God Bless,
Kevin

Hi Kevin, I will pray this novena for my nephew who is a drug addict and my brother who is an alcoholic.Thank you for sharing your story. It is beautiful. Stories like this strengthen my faith.

Please pray for my nephew (Brandon) and my brother (Greg).

Thank you.

What a great story, Kevin! Boy, six dozen roses. How good of St. Terese!

I prayed a novena to St. Terese when my oldest daughter was in high school. I was homeschooling her, and she felt it was too much for me and she wouldn’t get the attention needed for her school work, so she wanted to attend a Catholic high school. Even though I felt homeschooling was the best option for her, I still knew that she might have been right and that maybe God’s will was that she be in school. I told her I’d pray a novena to the Little Flower, just in time for her feast day, and that if I received a rose we would take it to mean she should continue homeschooling, and if she received one, I would accept that we should try to get her into the Catholic high school. In the middle of the novena, I received a dozen roses from a cousin of mine who had remembered, exactly one month late, that I had recently turned 40. This was from a cousin who had never even sent me a card before. It was quite a wonderful sign. My daughter’s high school years certainly had their challenges, but God does fill in the gaps. She is now a junior in college and a candidate with a religious order. I can’t help remembering that St. Terese was sent away for school, which made her very unhappy, and she felt that her vocation was saved when she was brought back home again. I think she was watching out for my daughter’s vocation as well.

Thanks for sending your story, Kevin. I’m sure there are many more that will be sent in.

What’s your daughters name so I can add her to my rosary?

An amazingly beautiful story. I am going to begin my novena today, for my son, his girlfriend and their newborn daughter, that they find their way and marry, for my sister and brother-in-law, whose marriage is in trouble and for my husband who struggles financially. God bless you for sharing this wonderful experience.

I will add them all to my rosary, God bless you. It took my a while ro realize that I needed to share the power of this little Saint. I guess being a doctor of the Church she isn’t so little.

My dad asked me if I wanted that statue yesterday, and I said, “not until she’s done with you!” I just always remember that statue, I thought it was the Blessed Mother when I was a child. It was years later that I found out the truth. Speaking of the Blessed Mother, she and the little flower are a team that will take you to the heights of holiness. Straight to the Cross and Heaven.
God Bless,

Kevin,
Thank you for your story.
I just began a Novena for My Wife Karol for the Lord to remove the Alzheimers from her.
You’ve encouraged my faith tremendously.

Bless You

James

James,
God bless you. I will pray for your wife. My mother died of alzheimer’s almost 2 years ago. She truly is a Saint. When Bishop Topel died here in Spokane she said something at his funeral that I will never forget. She said, “Your mind is the greatest gift of love that you can give to God”. She was a victim soul, and read many books on it, and then went and silently did it herself. She was so Holy several days before her death that a woman who was an ex prostitute and never had experienced God in her life was nearly driven to her knees by the presence of God in my mothers room. She had to be helped to a chair. She said she experienced a love that nearly made her pass out. Please pray for this woman she is still struggling greatly, and I will pray that God gives you the strength to care for your wife, and that if it is His will that He heal her, I understand this struggle.

My mom became so innocent, and so filled with joy. She would just lay in her bed at night and laugh and laugh. She entertained angels many times. One night she was carrying on a conversation in her room, and my dad walked in and asked her, “May I ask who your guest of honor is?” she said, “No, I don’t think so!” and she went right back to her guest. The peace in that house was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Please don’t fear God’s perfecting ways with your wife. If it’s not His will to heal her physically He will perfect you through the love you give her. I would encourage you to ask my mothers intercession for Karol. My mom’s name is Ginny. She lived a life of tireless selfless love until she got sick, then she embraced the cross for 15 years. God has moved powerfully in my life since her death. I will pray for Karol’s healing!

Thank you for your kindness and Prayers.

My mother’s name is also “Ginny” (Virginia) and she cared for my dad until the day he died 18 months ago (also of AD). What a beautiful example of Christian Love she has given me.

God’s will may not be to cure Karol, but I won’t know If I don’t ask.😃

Hi Eric,

Thank you for including Caitlin’s vocation! Your story inspired me so much that I started the novena yesterday for a very special intention. I would appreciate it if my special intention could also be included in the novena. I will pray for everyone else’s intentions as well.
