i am so excited. this year my parents have agreed that they should fast with me for ash weds, they even moved my father’s birthday celebration from weds to tues to not interupt the fast with lots of sweets and such a rich meal, and my dad asked me what exactly the guidlines were he had to follow! ah im so excited! this might not seem like such a big deal to most people, but a lot of the time my parents can be very much, jus go to church and your doing good enough types (no confession, no fasts, not even church on outside holy days of obligation), so this is a HUGE step. im really excited and just had to share 😃 pray this first step will be followed by many!!

yeah i wish my family were like that…

anyone else just wish they had a Catholic family? (and not just one by name?) or just want their family to love the faith? i want so much for them to know the joy that their faith brings… but they don’t even know their faith to begin with. and what’s more, they dont even care. this is not the case with my mother, but with my 3 sisters and my father (and im sure the cat is in cahoots with 'em too)
my dad never even tried to play the part of the spiritual leader in the family, in any way. weekly mass is enough, confession when you miss. and my mom, while a faith filled, prayerful (and much holier than I am) person, just doesn’t really have an interest (or as she’d say, she doesn’t ‘feel the need’) to learn anything about her faith outside of what she watches on ewtn) its like, i feel there’s so much waiting for them, but… they dont care

wow i just ranted there for a bit didnt i…hmm…well anyway, anyone else know what im sayin?

and God bless your family, hopefully thats the beginning of something wonderful.

Praise God! That is awesome!
I feel the same way as you guys being the “religious one” in the family . . . esp among my parents. I have only returned to the sacraments two years ago. My mother has told me that I have encouraged her (not through words) to learn about her faith. I can’t believe it, but my friend told me that she sees what I have and she wants it. I know full well Our Lord uses His children as such instruments, but I never thought I was behaving in a way that would encourage. I feel like I have such a very long way to go with my faith, with my capacity to love the Lord. St Francis said “Preach the gospel; when necessary, use words” is so very true. When you strive to be Christ-like, admit your failings and weaknesses (meaning make it known that I know I’m no better than anyone else, actually a worse sinner!), not be holier-than-thou . . . it really does get in the back of their minds and hopefully will help open their hearts. If you love the Lord, even if you’re not perfect, you will be a witness, even if it takes every day for 30 years to win your mother, father, brother, sister’s soul for Christ, I say it’s an amazing and suprising realization that your Lord is using you to make His will done.
