Ok, at this time of year we all take part in the annual ritual of griping about our families or holiday things. And, I have a few horror stories and questions that I may post in a few days. But I wanted to start this off with a positive story.

We moved from the Northwest to the Midwest a few years ago. It has been less than satisfying. We make about 2 trips back “home” every year. One in the summer and one in the winter. This year we drove in the summer. 1800 miles. But in the winter it is best to fly. So My wife (8 months pregnant) Myself, and our four kids ages, 9,7,5,2 flew back on the 13th for Christmas. We pack a ton in when we visit. So day 1 we had a birthday party for my two year old son and then on day two my wife and I went out to our favorite restaurant for dinner for our anniversary. Then my wife just completed an MBA and was able to walk to get her degree. Then my old uncle died and while one might think that was a sad thing, we were so blessed to have been there for the funeral. I gave a eulogy. We had a whirlwind of visits with friends and family. Saw the installation of a new Bishop and hung out with many parish friends. There was a lady sitting behind us at Mass we had never seen before, she caught us after Mass and gave us 50 dollars because our kids were so adorable and she wanted us to do something nice for them! One sad thing was that my sister who lives in Seattle would not be joining us for Christmas and she had just had a new baby. A baby that I or my family had yet to see. So, one of my mother’s friends flies a private jet. He just happened to call and say that he had enough seats (7) for my family to fly up to Seattle and then fly back the next day. We are talking red carpet treatment here. Drive up to the plane, hand your keys to the valet, get on, champagne etc, limo waiting at Boeing field in Seattle on the tarmac. Limo back to the plane. And the plane! A first class jet, brand new. WOW! I was amazed! It was so gracious of the friends of the family to treat us to that! When we were in Seattle, my 7 year old loves seals, we were walking by the bay and two seals came right up to her. It was the best thing ever to see her face of pure joy. Oh yeah, and my new baby nephew was adorable.

Then we got back to our hometown and went to hot springs, skied, and had a wonderful Christmas with family. On the way home, (Commercial:(:D) All four of my kids fell asleep for the plane ride.

What an amazing Christmas!
We are so blessed!

Awww!

Our Christmas at home was fine. We successfully offloaded a number of tasks that had made previous Christmas Eves a misery–we reorganized and cleaned the living room and the tree got brought inside well before Christmas Eve and the groceries got bought Dec. 23. Also, the big kids decorated the tree (with some help from the 2-year-old) and my husband wrapped almost all the gifts. So, Christmas Eve itself was fine and barely stressful (although my mushroom soup somehow bubbled over while on LOW and the microwave has been acting up). We also went to Christmas Day Mass as per usual protocol, which was also helpful.

The only dreadful holiday task that remains is Christmas cards. On the one hand, it is a daunting task. On the other hand, I don’t Facebook, and there are various people that I need to touch bases with. The cards are probably going to go out sometime in January.

On a more commercial note, our big grocery store had some fantastic deals on Dec. 26. I brought home two rosemary bushes that were $20 several days before Christmas and $5 on Dec. 26, plus a variety of other deeply discounted goodies (Christmas tree cookies, pie filling, exotic jams, etc).

Another commercial note–Aldi’s is fantastic as a place to pick up somewhat unusual groceries for Christmas Eve.

Congratulations to Mrs. HoosierDaddy on her MBA!

All I can say,is you’re wife must be superwoman. To take in everything you mentioned, while eight months pregnant, with four kiddos in tow…phewwww,I am tired just thinking about it!😉

If I was you I would go buy a lottery ticket.
