My family's safety, and the darkness in my mind

Two weeks ago, someone tried to kidnap our daughter from our front yard. We’ve done everything we can to protect her (and other children in the area). But this has cast a dark cloud over my household. Very stressful for my wife, and my mind is full of nothing but thoughts of what I would like to do to this person if someone other than the police happen to catch him. I could really use some spiritual direction, as my usual recourse to Confession and Mass isn’t bringing me any peace right now.

Please pray for the safety of my family and our community. And pray for peace for my household.

How awful! It’s understandable that your emotions aren’t following your will- you need God’s grace for that. If you haven’t done so already, sprinkle blessed salt around your property lines and around your home. Sprinkle holy water in every room in the house. Consecrated yourself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Pray to your guardian angel and to your children’s guardian angels. Pray the St. Michael the Archangel prayer as a family and the rosary as well, if feasible. God bless you.

Father, thank you for your covenant promise of protection. Right now I call upon the covenant I have with you and plead the blood of Jesus over my spouse, my children and myself.

Angels, I charge you to watch over my family to protect us, for we are walking in the footsteps of Jesus. Go before us, behind us, beside us and all the way around us. Keep us from calamity, evil and misfortune.

Sorry to hear of your awful experience. Don’t beat yourself up about any negative feelings you may have towards the guilty party. You cannot help your emotions especially given the event is so recent. God surely understands the feelings you are experiencing as He too is a Father.

Humanly speaking you will not be able to banish those negative feelings but with God, as you know, all things are possible. Ask God to help you to overcome such feelings and move on. I pray you and your family stay safe. Ask Our Lady to cover your daughter and all your family in Her protective mantle.

An awful thing to have to deal with. When I was around six, I was on my way to a friends house up the street. A lady pulled her car over, and opened the door. There was a little boy inside my age who asked if I could come play with him. I told them that I would have to ask my mother. The lady said that I could not do that, I would have to go with them right then. I knew the situation was not good instinctively somehow, and repeated that I would have to ask my mother and walked away.

I of course credit God and the Lord for saving me. I often wondered what happened to that boy.

You may already know what praying for this person does. Hopefully, he will receive the graces he needs to turn away from evil and turn towards God. It may save other children from him. He may also be apprehended, thereby keeping hims from further damnation, and saving other potential victims from him. It is hard to say.

What it will do for you and your family is heap grace upon grace on you all. If we take would be attacks from the devil and turn them into graces, there is no incentive for him to continue to plague you or your family. It will go far in ridding you all of potential hatred and distrust, bitterness.

Give God thanks for protecting you, your family and neighbors for his intervention. We all will be praying for you and your daughter. I pray that all of you find peace and that joy comes back to all of you.

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular (penitent76), and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you.
