My father passed away last Friday!

God answers all prayers. Sometimes, for His purposes, the answer is no. We must trust that God’s purpose is benevolent and loving. We can’t know what future suffering was prevented by your father’s passing.

You and your family have my sympathy and my prayers.

I kept thinking that little girls are supposed to have a daddy when my father died even though I was in my forties, so I know that it is a deep loss. I can’t imagine how people with no faith get through the hard times. As to the answered prayer, I had an experience recently in that regard. A friend, upset at some things, left the church and was away for a little more than a year. I had been praying for her to return. I found out that she, obviously moved by the Holy spirit, attended Holy Thursday Mass this year, but at a different parish. While I selfishly was praying that she would return to our parish, God had other plans. She’s now attending the other church and is happy there. Prayers are often answered in ways that we can’t foresee or understand or desire. Praying for the repose of the soul of your father and for your peace.

I felt the same way when my mom died; even left the Church I was so mad at God. Then I realized she was spared a great deal of pain, and also some developments in the family that would have been even more painful. Not that this is in store for you or anyone, but it took awhile to absorb the grief. She is still in my heart, my head, my life, and my children and grandchildren. Be kind to yourself while you heal.
