My fight with the Sin of lust.

Hello Brothers and Sisters in Christ

         I have a problem with lust (masterbation) that is really making me believe I will never stop it. I did everything I could to get rid of Pornography on my computer and it was successful but, even when I think of a hot girl I get excited and get the temptation to masterbate . It could even be a innocent thought but quickly becomes bad. I try to get it out my head but I still feel the temptation sometimes . Lust accounts for 95% of my sins I really love the Lord and want to serve him best I can. I have been addicted to masterbation since 5th grade but have recently(Late June) tried to stop it once and for all. Little did I know it was very hard to quit cold turkey that day something I have been doing for so long. Maybe I am tempted to sin because I am trying to stay celibate until marriage, I`m 18(about to turn 19) and am still a virgin. I want to stay one until I `m married. 
            
          I made a list of things to do that will take up my whole day if I follow it that I will start tomorrow, but I`m scared that I will get lazy and not do it. Any advice(and Prays) on how to stop this horrible sin would be great.

Its a tough Battle to win, most every young man has a great struggle with it, maybe it isnt as bad a sin as we think, talk to a spiritual advisor about it. Most young men & also a lot of older have raging hormones, something that`s really not their fault.

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.

This is why it’s good to speak to a spiritual advisor, as someone mentioned. Yet, test before you trust, as some will tell you it’s normal, though you know that’s not the case. It is common, but that that doesn’t make it normal. A spiritual guide may look at factors such as: your experience in dating. Date carefully and look up web resources on pure intimacy. The habit aspect you mentioned. Try and identify those times you’re most vulnerable and find something else to replace it (e.g. a hot bath to relax before sleeping instead of masturbating). Are you anxious about anything? A trusted spiritual guide could help with that too. Entrust yourself to the prayers of our Blessed Mother, try a Novena invoking St Joseph.

Having covered all these bases, you may find what Blessed John Cassian advises about lust to be of help.

I have gone through much of what you are going through. Keep persevering, frequent the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and trust in the Blessed Virgin Mary. She will never fail in leading us to her Son. And no matter how hopeless it seems just remember that you must keep getting up when you fall down. It’s a long, tough road, but one worth taking.

You are not alone. This is a universal male problem. The majority of christian men are struggling with this right along with you. Some are doing better than others. Some men have less of a struggle than others. This could be due in part to biological factors along with just being more disciplined. The pornography is much easier to stop than the masturbation so start there!

Many of us get locked into this behavior as young boys… long before we even know what sexuality is all about. It is extremely habit forming because of the brain chemicals that are involved. Be patient with yourself.

Do your best to avoid going down that road and if you feel unable to stop and you KNOW you are about to engage in this behavior. Skip the pornography. I am not advocating or excusing masturbation, but for some men, this will allow them to remove these twin shackles one at a time. Ask God’s forgiveness and assistance to be stronger next time. He knows all about our struggles as men and loves us anyway.

Avoid the TV shows, entertainment and people who cause you to stumble. Talk to Jesus about this too… a lot. He will help you… but you have got to help yourself too!

Stop watch television, anyone watching immodest immoral films, series & shows, will indeed be tempted by the sensual characters and scenes of impurity composed by the devil to make the world lovers of pleasure and lust. Sadly though, even in so called “Christian” films have the devil mixed in sinful scenes, immodest dress, etc…

Most on the television (except maybe Christian films, which is watched for the glory of God), is sinful anyway, whether or not you want to admit it or believe it. Few people there are that will be honest in this question. Fasting with the eyes is needful for staying pure.

The next thing you need to do is to stop eating more then you need, avoid all superfluity in food and drink, such as candy, snacks, crisps, etc. Eat two meals a day, fast on other days. Nothing so easily subjects the flesh as fasting.

Even if you do these things and more, you will still be tempted and fall, for satan never sleeps. You must have patience and trust in God praying for help. You must not touch yourself, and you must not find enjoyment in your sinful thoughts. You must renounce them and reject them, if you do think about them enjoying them, satan gains power, and the good spirit leaves.

The road is narrow, which is why few find it.
