I attended my first Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament tonight since reconnecting with the Church some months ago. I had read some things about it but wasn’t prepared for the feeling that came over me as I sat, prayed, and observed the Eucharist. Everything else; work, home life, etc. was pushed to the background and I was enveloped by a palpable sense of awe and reverence. Has anyone else had this feeling? (especially their first time).

Yes, the first time after I finally decided to become Catholic.

I’ve attended adoration off and on for the past year. I even have went to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, here in Alabama…you know a little lady that goes by Mother Angelica?..

I did this recently. Yes. It was completely unexpected. Enveloped is a good word. It’s not even easy for me to verbalize it and the few times I tried it became clear why people simply revert to generic terms like ‘peaceful.’

Definitely! We are blessed to have a Perpetual Adoration chapel. Some days I have been so drawn in, I’ve totally lost track of time. If I don’t get to be with Him at least 1 hour a week, I really feel the loss.

I call the adoration chapel the “Alternate Universe” because of just such experiences.

I’ll never forget my first time. It was breath-taking. When I came home, I prayed about it and thought, “This is too much for me, I’m not ready.” But the Lord proved otherwise.
