My first child

I’m a new Catholic (first [and only!] in my family) and my husband and I are expecting our first child.

Since I’m a new Catholic, and I joined the church through RCIA as an adult, the whole idea of raising my children Catholic is exicting but quite overwhelming. My husband is a non-practicing Protestant (we both were when me met and married). He is supportive, but the Catholic raising is going to be coming from be, at least for the time being.

Anyway so the first step is Baptism, I’m all nervous about it! I will be doing Baptism classes at church, but not until I am like 8 months pregnant! Since I’m only 5 months, it seems like forever.

Also, I don’t have a lot of Catholic friends yet, so I don’t even know where to start when looking for Godparents…

I don’t really know what I’m asking for, maybe some advice? I don’t know, I’m just all excited and nervous and the hormones are making me think too much!

other than attend mass every sunday, the best thing you can do is pray the rosary daily.

I would encourage you to participate in a Bible study group or other activities that your church offers. This would increase your exposure to more brothers and sisters and promote the making of friends. Who knows… it may also positively influence your hubby and others in your family in to get involved with Mother Church too!

Congratulations to you and yours and kudos for choosing to raise your child Catholic. I can’t think of a better way to enter this world!

I would love to, but they don’t offer Bible study all the time. They will run a 7 week program for 7 weeks every now and then, but not all the time. I think they haven’t had it recently because of Advent and Christmas, perhaps they will pick it back up soon.
