I’ve not been a regular mass goer by any means. In fact, maybe once or twice a year at most. In fact you could hardly call me a practicing catholic at all 😊

But tonight, I attended my first mass in the extrodinary form. Is this what’s referred to as the traditonal latin mass?

Either way, it was the most beautiful mass Ive been to - possibly ever. I had what is to me at least, a truely humbling and spiritual experience.

It was a sung high mass - the rites and the beauty of the celebration where truely mindblowing to me.

I left mass, feeling on a real high, feeling I had really been part of a spiritual reflection and celebration.

I found out the church I attended, as of today, will be celebrating the traditional latin mass every sunday at 6.30pm.

I shall be there 👍

That’s great to hear. I have a sense that your spiritual life is about to take off.

I just thought of something else. Guess what next Sunday is. It is Divine Mercy Sunday. If you go to confession next week, you will receive a plenary Indulgence, which means that, not only will you receive the forgiveness of your sins, but also the punishment due to them. It will almost have the effect is a second baptism - a new start! 👍 I’ll be praying for you.

Great idea! Wouldn’t it be heavenly if every priest, everywhere preached on the gift of Divine Mercy Sunday and actually encouraged people to observe it.

Way to go alpslapper!

Hi Alpslapper,

Yes, the Extraordinary Form (or EF) is also known as the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) or even Tridentine Latin Mass because it was codified (though not started) at the Council of Trent. That is truly great news that you have the opportunity to attend the TLM on a regular basis. Whenever I’ve been able to attend a TLM, particularly one with Gregorian chant, I know the sense of spiritual fulfillment that can last for days. God bless.

Alpslapper,

Good for you. Use this experience as a building block, a foundation. Don’t let it slip away. The Extraordinary Form solidified my faith. It transformed my life.

Thank you all for your kind replys and your encouragement. Mass ended almsot 4 hours ago and I’m still on a bit of a high.

Thank you for the pointer to next Sunday. I didn’t know it was Divine Mercy Sunday. (to be honest I never heard of such a day:shrug: - I did say I could hardly call myself a Catholic with how Ive lead my life to date 😊 )

But as a result Ive just check online the times for confessions at the church I attended today. Not having been to confession for erm, oh, maybe 30 years or more, I feel sorry for the poor priest that gets me next saturday  🙂

From my POV I have been attending a TLM for about the past year and I am still on a high. Sometimes the beauty of the TLM brings tears to my eyes. I am thankful everyday for the chance to get to attend this beautiful Mass.🙂

Will it make you feel better if I stand in line just before you? 😃

Looks like we’ll be doing the Easter duty at the same time.

You will be the highlight of his day. Not for his hearing of your sins, but for his being able to take them away from you.

i’ve been to a few low Masses and like 3 high Masses. they were… Extraordinary! i felt like i was going to explode for love of God. the words are so deep and meaningful, the people, priests and servers so reverent. the chanting, heavenly.

i can feel this in the Ordinary Form, but the Extraordinary form is just so much more conducive. oh how i wish i could explain this to others, but alas, it’s not for everyone…

alpslapper,

consider yourself blessed to be near a Mass in the EF. Down here in my town, we are practically a part of the Church Suffering…suffering through a lot of silliness that is not a part of the old Mass.

Please pray for us down in College Station, TX, that others may be inspired by this Mass like you were.
