My first Mass...

I’ve known for 3 weeks that I would entering the Catholic Church. However, I thought that I would wait until after Easter weekend so that I didn’t get caught up in a bunch of traditional Easter ceremonies performed by the church. I was very nervous that I would get in there and people would start bowing and I’d stay standing, or they recite something and I’d just simply feel stupid for not catching on. Well, last night, I told Tiffany that I couldn’t wait, seeing as how I work every other weekend, 2 more weeks before I entered the church doors. When I went, I ended up standing when they bowed and I feel pretty ridiculous when I didn’t know what to recite, but I also felt something else, the presence of my Lord and Savior!!

I have read your blog and want to welcome you. Don’t be nervous about doing the wrong thing just follow along or sit quiet and observe for a while. You will find the Catholic faith to be a life time of learning. It is beautiful. If you find that you are ready to learn more about the faith contact a priest and start RCIA classes to learn the faith. There isn’t any pressure to become catholic and you would enjoy the RCIA program.

The Holy Week Masses and services would have been very rich and inspiring to you if you would have gone. I hope you are at every one of them next year with your whole family.

Welcome, and we’ll be praying for you on your journey. Don’t worry about not doing things exactly right. Most people won’t pay any attention unless you scream or something. All these things you’ll learn soon enough, but what is most important is that the faith that brought you in the door is nourished by your prayer and study. The more you know about Jesus and the Church He gave us, and the more you experience His love through your prayer and conversion (i.e. changing your life to follow Christ), the closer your relationship with Him will be. Soon, God willing, you will be able to receive the Sacraments, which are vessels of grace that help us though life and bring us to eternal life in Christ. We love to see newcomers to the faith. Know that our faith is bigger than your local parish or diocese. Our Catholic (which means “universal”) faith reaches around the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ crucified, died, and risen!
