Only a priest can bless you in this instance so if there is someone else helping with communion, make sure you are in the line for the priest.
I currently go up for blessing only (hoping for confirmation Easter 2011!) and cross my arms in front. I asked our Priest about whether I had to stay in his line, and he said it was fine for the acolyte to bless. Which it was why it was important to cross the arms (the Priest knows I only go for blessing, but the acolyte may not recognise me).

Can you shed any light on this?

I really don’t know the strictness of this but I remember when I was first going to mass I did a lot of research and I remember reading somewhere that only the priest may do this. Perhaps I am / the resource I looked at is wrong, but then again perhaps it isn’t. All I would say is to go to the priest anyway, it to me feels like the right thing to do anyway.

I am going to be baptised and confirmed on Pentecost so only two more masses like this for me until I can receive communion… can’t wait! 👍
