I’ve been to a few Tridentine Mass’ here in Sydney. If you look you’ll find them all over the city and legit Vatican ones. I’ve found them to be wonderul esp. the chant! At the glorious St Mary’s Cathedral they do a solem English NO with chant and it is stunning.
Knowing what the NO text really says and not what ICEL translated it as (for various reasons I won’t got into - new translation on the way - google and find leak online) I find it a most beautiful prayer.
I like the way the word easily and profoundly enter the soul and every one at their own speed without shouting from the rooftops reveranlty responds to the revelant parts.
I love that there are more readings, esp Old Testament, from the bible too.
At the TM while I kind of know the text, the words don’t sit it my heart as much as they do when I hear them in English at each NO Mass. I supose not being fluent in Latin the English is more recognisable and current then looking at a trans of the Latin.
Also with the TM sometimes the Priest seems to say the words as if he were Road Runner (meep meep!). Maybe that’s just the way Latin is, or these particular Priests just happen to be fast talkers.
I know I’ve made some criticims of the TM but truly it is so wonderously beautiful and hey if I hear Here I am Lord one more time…
It would be nice if their was plainchant, silence before Mass (which the Vatican calls for), and the Kyrie in Greek, and Sanctus and Agnus Dei in Latin but maybe in time. But some of this is subjective.
In OZ we kneal from the Sanctus to the Our Father and then from the Agnus Dei until the Concluding Right. Many Churches have kneelers, some with cushioning conected to each pew.
Stick with the NO and hopefuly you will find it nourishing. The re-translation of the text and missal should 2009 I think or late 2008 at the earliest.
Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the banquet of the Lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.
May the Body of Christ
keep me safe unto eternal life.
To you, most merciful Father,
we therefore humbly pray
through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.
We ask you to accept and bless these gifts,
these offerings,
these holy and undefiled sacrifices,
In the same way, when supper was ended,
he took this precious chalice
into his holy and venerable hands,
