I finally got the chance to go to a Byzantine Catholic church in my area which is 30 minutes away on Sunday. It is a small community and I had to park a block away as the church is in a residential area. This particular Sunday the Divine Liturgy was earlier than normal as they were doing their annual harvest dinner & open house after the liturgy.
I sat in the back dressed decently and modestly. I sat when they sat, sat when they sat (basically imitating the others in front of me. It was much quieter before the liturgy with people standing or sitting to pray and/or venerating the icons. I liked that there was a lot more chanting and singing compared to my parish (as I am born and raised as Roman Catholic). I did my best to follow along in the missal, some responses are similar or same as what I am accustomed to, many more intercessory prayers etc. I do notice the sign of the cross is a bit different but I am sure no one was concerned that I crossed differently.
After the liturgy was done, I did speak to some of the those there including the priest at the open house/dinner. All were very welcoming to me, they answered a few questions, and then hoped that I will return again for another Divine Liturgy.
