At the Easter Vigil at our parish, the Apostolic Nuncio presided. Naturaly he wasn’t quite sure how things were done at my parish. After he gave the EMHC Holy Communion, he came to the altar servers who were still kneeling around the altar, while the EMHC were receiving the Precious Blood from another priest. The altar servers always wait after the EMHC has received communion and left the sanctuary to distribute then we would stand up and go receive. But the Nuncio didn’t follow those procedures, we the altar servers received kneeling. I always receive on the tongue. What a humbling and awesome experience it was to receive communion kneeling and on the tongue. I’d love to do that all the time but I don’t want to be the odd one out which everyone looks if I receive kneeling.

This is how the altar servers always receive in my church–kneeling on the steps. We do have people who regularly kneel to receive even though our church was built without altar rails. Reception in general is very reverent at our parish and we have people receiving in all manners–kneeling, standing, on the tongue, in the hand. The wonderful reverence of our DRE and RCIA director and of course our priests shows the way for the children, those new to the faith, and everyone else!

Good for you!
Tell your Pastor you should keep this practice. I get looked at crazy as I genuflect before recieving. Some may think I’m crazy or one even said “Putting on a show.”
It’s because I want to pay the dues for my ticket to enternity. I pray he earns his as well.

I’ve only received kneeling once, at our wedding, and it was a humbling experience I agree! 👍 My husband started kneeling to receive when we were on our honeymoon that included Rome and a cruise to various Mediterranean spots where we went to Mass at many different, historic churches. He still does, and I think he’s the only one in our parish. Nobody has said anything to him. I would love to kneel to receive all the time, but unfortunately I’m incredibly clumsy and I worry that I would fall, trip over someone or something, or have some other mishap! 😊
