Sunday, I went to a Low Mass said in Latin according to the Tridentine rite. I’m 56, and that Mass was the Mass of my childhood. I haven’t been to a TLM since high school and I had forgotten the long periods of silence, but we had a missalette and I was able to follow along very well and even give the responses. The experience would have been almost perfect except that everyone there seemed to have 12 kids all under the age of 3 and many of them were shriekers. They’d be fine, and then for no reason at all one (or many more) would let out a piercing scream. Most disconcerting (to put it mildly). It was a very small church and the noise was VERY loud. I’d love to go to a High Mass, but I think Father is waiting to get comfortable with the Low Mass before he tries a high one.

I was at that Mass with you.

For a high Mass you will have to go to St. Martin’s in Louisville. The Priest saying the Mass in Horse Cave are still learning the low mass, and the Latin. I don’t think they are quite ready for a sung mass just yet. I agree that the screatching kids were a little annoying. I was happy to see the lady take the one baby out of mass near the beginning. Too bad the others didn’t follow her. 😃

Well, I guess that puts to rest my aversion to bringing my small brood to a TLM.

Well hello Pax et Caritas - small world. I had to drive a ways through the rain to get there, but I wanted to go to a TLM so much that I braved the rain which turned out to be not **that **bad. And bless the lady who took the little boy out early, he was such a doll (he looked like my son at that age) but the poor little fellow was tired and cranky - no wonder he screamed.

I may even have to get a mantilla…although I look better in a hat.😃 I think I may go to the Latin Mass in Lent and see if they sing some of those wonderful Lenten hymns like Parce Domine, or Attende Domine. I went to an Ash Wednesday Mass at one of the suburban churches and they sang Ashes. Ugh!

I have never heard of singing ashes?

We’ve been to the Mass at Horse Cave four times. It is usually not that loud. There are two priest that alternate. One of them either used to be on EWTN or still is sometimes. His name is Fr. Shanon Collins. Both of the Priests are from the Fathers of Mercy order.

It takes us about 45 minutes to get there, which is the same amount of time it takes for us to go to the Traditional Mass in Louisville (which is where we usualy go). We decided to go to the Mass in Horse Cave to show our support since it is new. We’ll be alternating between Louisville and Horse Cave. I hope you make it there again sometime.

Would that it was singing ashes.

What Biblioassistant is talking about is “Ashes”, a hideously maudlin and theologically murky song written by Tom Conroy in 1978 (think of “You Needed Me” by Anne Murray, “Hot Child in the City” by Nick Gilder, and “Hopelessly Devoted to You” by Olivia Neutron-Bomb to get an idea of the culturo-musical milieu at the time).

If you have never heard it, then count yourself as One of the Few Fortunate People in North America, and dedicate three Rosaries in thanksgiving for being spared.
