Sunday, I went to a Low Mass said in Latin according to the Tridentine rite. I’m 56, and that Mass was the Mass of my childhood. I haven’t been to a TLM since high school and I had forgotten the long periods of silence, but we had a missalette and I was able to follow along very well and even give the responses. The experience would have been almost perfect except that everyone there seemed to have 12 kids all under the age of 3 and many of them were shriekers. They’d be fine, and then for no reason at all one (or many more) would let out a piercing scream. Most disconcerting (to put it mildly). It was a very small church and the noise was VERY loud. I’d love to go to a High Mass, but I think Father is waiting to get comfortable with the Low Mass before he tries a high one.
