I just saw a billboard this morning that stated:

My God Is Merciful…I’m an Episcopalian!

It also had the website of their Michigan diocese, www.edomi.org.

Is this some new advertising campaign of the whole Episcopal church or just locally? I was not aware that their God was any different from the One True God. Why is it their God…and who came up with this slogan?

Anyway, it just struck me as odd. :whacky:

The whole thing is a soft sell of the idea that in the Episcopal church one will find “inclusion,” not like at that backwards Catholic parish down the street which still teaches that homosexual behavior, fornication, adultery, contraception, abortion, euthanasia, formal heresy, etc. are grave sins. No, the ECUSA is accepting of everyone’s “lifestyle” and every theology anyone wants to believe as long as they worship in their buildings and contribute to their coffers. Sad, truly sad. 😦

I think this is all a desperate attempt to retain members, as so many mainstream Protestant denominations began hemorraging members with the creation of “non-denominationalism” in the 1990s.

Oh no! Please tell me that’s not another Episcopalian slogan…

My father works for the Episcopal Church as a sexton, he is very torn over this. The church has become so extremely liberal, he thinks it may be wrong for him to be there, but he is only two years from retirement. I told him that his real job is to be a light there. He may never know whose life the Lord may bless through him.

The parish he works at is thriving, but the parishoners are a very liberal group, with many homosexual couples. That seems to be their “niche” now. 😦

Hmm, I wonder if that’s not a local thing. Here in Chicago I’ve seen no such signage and I am an Episcopalian.

Look at it this way, with the liberals being driven out of all the other churches, isn’t it good that ECUSA is willing to minister to them?

Pax,
Amy

Sounds like an “in your face” slogan to me. Very unchristian. 😦

Yesterday I saw a vehicle in front of me with the Darwin fish apparently molesting a Christian fish. GRRRR. It was all I could do to take my thoughts of anger toward this thoughtless person and turn them into a prayer for her. Sometimes these slogans really push my buttons. :o :o

I don’t think a liberal is as much being *driven out * of his/her church, but rather *choses to leave * to find my truth, a truth that is more comfortable to their sensibilities. That is what liberalism i.e., relativism is; *your truth * is not my truth. Any church who does not subscribe to relativism is scorned and left behind when all attempts at reforming it fail.

So leaving for a more relative truth is a choice. And since the Episcopal Church was open to relativism, and reform was rather easily accomplished, that is where relativists find their home. The billboards are just a siren call to those relativists who are tired of trying to reform their churches, and asked to join others in a place where they are all welcomed with open arms.

So true. I would just add that caving in to people’s weaknesses isn’t ministering to them but enabling them to lose their souls. Not what a Christian church ought to be doing, IMHO.

Their logic is that Jesus embraced all; ate with sinners… Some extremists claim He had homosexual relationships; that was on a radio broadcast from a London Church which is a “gay” stronghold.
They miss the words in Matthew.“They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick… I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance”
So they welcome “gays” for the wrong reason.
Their intent is loving. But rather than loving and accepting the person but hating the sin, they condone all.
Many have left ECUSA over this; they know the truth and many who as Edwin love that tradition join other Anglican denominations.

The “My God is Mother” billboard is also in Michigan, as evidenced by the www.edomi.org in the lower right corner. Thanks for sharing that, Ahimsa…I think  !

Also, from that website I confirmed that this is a local campaign that was developed by a hired firm. If I were a local Episcopalian, I would ask for my money back…or find someplace else to donate it next time.

Whew!

Someone said to a firend of mine “MY God wouldn’t send anyone to Hell.” To which my friend replied “Would your God ever do anything you disagreed with?”

Heaven will be a place protected from sin. Only those willing to let go of their fallen, sin nature and put on the nature of Christ will be there. All others will not be admitted so as not to corrupt heaven for the rest of God’s children. This present life is where we make our choice, where do we want to be and what are we willing/not willing to give up to be there?

Christ didn’t leave too many loopholes, especially for those who know better and who won’t submit to the Father’s will.

C.S. Lewis’ book, The Great Divorce is brilliant in exploring this.

Scary, isn’t it? If our Jesus was not mercifull… Isn’t it the Orthodox who believe that even demons will have a chance to repent? That strange man" Bishop" Buckely, he of the " compassionate minsitry to gays " over here in Ireland, has in anger rewritten the creed. His version avers that “heaven will eb full; hell will be empty and even satan will have a second chance”… along with" there is nothing evil/wrong in any from of sex; only in abuse."
But Jesus IS merciful. And really, could anyone seeing Him fully turn away?

Wasn’t it Dr. Laura that said, “If you find it easy to believe everything your church teaches, You are in the wrong church”? Basically implying that you shouldn’t join a church just because it is easier than another. Watered down denominations are just that…They are not the WHOLE truth, they are a touchy feely we want everyone to join us and feel good places. It is though the struggles that I have grown the most in my life. I personally agree that if you don’t challenge people to become better people they will stagnate and not grow in faith.

Homosexuals aren’t being “driven out of” the Catholic Church, it’s just that the Catholic Church won’t lie and tell them that they’re lifestyle choice is AOK.

In Christ,
Nancy 🙂

Is the possibility of the repentance of demons against Catholic dogma?
